He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1993), a Master's degree in Mathematics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1996), and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (2002). He was an adjunct professor at the Military Institute of Engineering from 2002 to 2009. Currently, he is an associate professor at the Institute of Computing (formerly the Department of Computer Science at IM/UFRJ). He has experience in the area of numerical methods, mainly working on the following topics: numerical simulation, finite element method, discrete element method, and fuzzy logic. In 2015, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Sols, Solides, Structures, Risque (3S-R) laboratory, Université Grenoble-Alpes, France.
