BORNEO BLACK ORCHID SYMBOLISM: CULTURAL AND ISLAMIC INTERSECTIONS FOR GLOBAL INSIGHTS Elmansyah Elmansyah, Ali Hasmy, Martina Martina, Munawar Thoharudin, Erna Ekawati Jurnal Ilmiah Peuradeun, 2025 The Bornean Black Orchid is a rare and unique plant that grows exclusively in Kalimantan. However, no scientist or practitioner has yet attempted to explore its potential as a symbol of identity for organizations, social institutions, or government entities. This research aims to uncover the potential of the Bornean Black Orchid as an inspiration for the development of Islamic higher education with global benefits. The study employs a qualitative method with a philosophical approach, examining the existence of the Bornean Black Orchid and its relevance to a model for developing educational materials in higher education. Data were collected through direct observation at Selimbau Orchid Park and in-depth interviews with managers and the local community. The symbols derived from the orchid are interpreted philosophically to inform a higher education development model that integrates Islamic principles with Bornean culture. Contributions from experts and practitioners were gathered through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The research findings are as follows: 1) The Bornean Black Orchid is not only rare and unique but also embodies the original identity of the people of Kalimantan, reflecting superior characteristics; 2) The patterns of the Bornean Black Orchid can serve as a model for developing educational materials in higher education; 3) The characteristics of the Bornean Black Orchid can inspire the establishment of an Islamic university that is both exceptional and globally impactful.
Islam rimba: Islamic philosophy and local culture engagement in sumatera Waryono Waryono, M. Nurdin Zuhdi, M. Anwar Nawawi, Elmansyah Elmansyah Hts Teologiese Studies Theological Studies, 2021 This research aims to reveal the historical roots and elements of the background for the formation of the Orang Rimba’s religion. This study is based on field research with a descriptive approach of religious phenomenon. The research derives some conclusions: (1) the Orang Rimba is monotheist, that is, they are not adherents to dynamism, polytheism, or animism as it has been understood. (2) The history of the Orang Rimba’s religion is affected by two elements; namely, Rimba culture and Islamic culture. (3) Evidence suggests that Islam is one element of Orang Rimba’s religion as the following: (a) Mantra of Getting Honey, such as Basmallah, Allah, Istighfar, Muhammad and Ya Karim ; (b) Orang Rimba Faith in God, the Prophet Muhammad, the Angel and Doomsday; (c) the values of the ceremony of Death: Ratib Laa Ilaha Illallah; and (d) the values of the ceremony Berdekir . (4) It has proved the existence of a new theory about the spread of Islam in the Suku Anak Dalam community since the 14th century and at the same time undermined the old theory of the Orang Rimba’s religion that has been misunderstood over the years. Contribution: Researchers can use this new theory’s findings as reference material on the Orang Rimba’s religion (Suku Anak Dalam). They can also use this theory to compare other views about the Orang Rimba’s religion.
The theology of islamic moderation education in Singkawang, Indonesia: The city of tolerance Lailial Muhtifah, Zaenuddin Hudi Prasojo, Sukman Sappe, Elmansyah Elmansyah Hts Teologiese Studies Theological Studies, 2021 This article explores the trends in the implementation of Islamic moderation through aqidah and sharia in Singkawang, as it is considered the most tolerant city in Indonesia based on a research report published in 2019. Using grounded research analysis, the authors found three structured patterns: implementation strategies (as related to vision, mission, position, programme and impact), implementation processes (as related to main actors, levels of success and obstacles) and implementation patterns. This study shows that these strategies and methods, implemented through a flexible, straightforward and easy-to-implement model are relevant to the fundamental values of Islamic education and offer a means of forming a complete and comprehensive network. These implementation patterns encourage religious communities to develop and maintain healthy social relationships. Hopefully, such implementation patterns can be imitated and modified by policyholders to realise Islam rahmatanlil ‘alamin [as a blessing for all].Contribution: Scholars in the fields may benefit from the findings of the research as it provides a new perspective of the Islamic educational moderation theory grounded from the field research. It argues that the practice of community tolerance, especially by the Muslims, has been based on the good understanding of the theology of Islamic education moderation. Education matters in the process of community peace building and in generating tolerance through the implementation of Islamic moderation values.
Theology of Jiḥād based on the Ḥadīth: Ṣaḥīh Bukhāri’s perspective Wajidi Sayadi, Elmansyah Elmansyah, Zaenuddin H. Prasojo, Ahmad Muaffaq Hts Teologiese Studies Theological Studies, 2020 Some people think that various acts of terrorism are always related to Islam as it is a doctrine which is identical to war with all its derivative forms. It will appear to be incompatible if we trace the example of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, written in Ṣahīh Bukhāri’s ḥadīths. This research aimed to uncover the meaning of Jiḥād in Islam as stated in the ḥadīths of the Prophet Muhammad in the book Ṣahīh Bukhāri, the work of the distinguished ḥadīth scholar named Muhammad bin Ismail bin Ibrahim bin al-Mugirah al-Bukhāri (Imam Bukhāri). This interpretation is expected to be a guide for Muslims in the Jiḥād itself, and it could provide accurate information for researchers about Islam, making it possible for scientists to change the stigmatic perspective of terrorism related to Islam. The researchers used a descriptive method by discussing the philosophical meaning of Matan (content) of ḥadīth contained in the book Ṣahīh Bukhāri about Jiḥād. It was concluded in this research that the term Jiḥād does not mean war. It means the effort in the path of Allah, doing Jiḥād against lust, serving the parents, reconciling the parties in conflict, keeping of the promise, supporting old widows, supporting neglected children and the poor, doing hajj Mabrur, and so forth. Jiḥād could also be defined in the context of social welfare, such as in education and economics, which support the framework of bringing about prosperity on earth.Contribution: The number of terrorism cases in the name of Jiḥād lately is very detrimental to Muslims. Because of a lack of understanding of Jiḥād’s meaning, it is a broad sense apart from the war against infidels. This article calls on the importance of understanding Jiḥād, both for Muslims themselves and for people other than Islam. This article provides theological reasons for Jiḥād that can contribute to making peace in the world.
Moderate Islam and the social construction of multi-ethnic communities in the hinterland of west Kalimantan Zaenuddin Hudi Prasojo, Elmansyah Elmansyah, Muhammed Sahrin Haji Masri Indonesian Journal of Islam and Muslim Societies, 2019 This article discusses the social construction of culture and inter-ethnic relations within the daily lives of the people of West Kalimantan. Religion and ethnicity have played central roles in the identity dynamics of its multi-ethnic communities; they have also contributed to communal conflicts, with religious and cultural sentiments common throughout the region. Islam has become an important religion in West Kalimantan, as it is practiced by more than half of the province's population. This article explores the local potential of communities and the opportunity to promote better Islamic development in the region's hinterland after the collapse of the Islamic sultanates that had introduced Islam into this region. Data were obtained from ten different locations in Mempawah, Landak, and Sanggau Regencies, all of which are considered part of West Kalimantan's hinterland and are relatively homogenous in their demographics, religions, and customs. Over two years of research, we noted important local potentials and wisdoms in the region, finding that these complemented Islam within local communities' everyday lives. These local potentials and wisdoms included beliefsthat serving food strengthens brotherhood, friendliness is a key to success, lineage is a gift that should be appreciated, and serving guests brings happiness, as well as an ethos that promotes hard work and good manners.
Shifting orientation in Sufism: Its development and doctrine adjustment in history Elmansyah Al-haramain Indonesian Journal of Islam and Muslim Societies, 2011 One of Islamic cultures that is constantly able to evolve and adapt to the various
condition is Sufism. In the process of development, Sufism has always been a
solution to various issues in society, and it is also aimed at achieving closed
relation to the Lord. Shifting orientation of Sufism has occurred in any kind of its
theology, politics, philosophy, and organization. The present studies of Sufism
development lead to medical issues. Some experts call it Sufi Healing. It is
interesting to discuss it since the shifting orientation brings something positive to
the development of Sufism. However, there are many things that need to be
reviewed, namely the provision of the proposition for any behavioral recovery
which seemed a merely justification. This article is presented by using a
historical and a phenomenological approach that emphasizes on the existence
of its phenomenon. Through this article, it is expected to obtain an understanding
of Sufism and its various efforts in developing the doctrine of al-ihs} an> in Islam in
he context of digital era.
