Bidirectional Switched Capacitor DC-DC Converter Wellington Arthur Licht Nachau, António Manuel Santos Spencer Andrade, Diogo Ribeiro Vargas, Gustavo Guilherme Koch 2023 15th Seminar on Power Electronics and Control Sepoc 2023, 2023 Magnetic elements, such as inductors and transformers, have been major contributors to the volume and weight of static converters. As a result, the development of switched capacitor converters has been gaining prominence in power electronics. These converters are primarily composed of semiconductors and capacitors, leading to a significant reduction in weight and volume, along with a high power density and low electromagnetic noise emission. This paper presents a novel bidirectional switched capacitor converter topology, covering the construction of the printed circuit board and the acquisition of experimental results. The aim is to demonstrate the converter’s capability to double or halve the voltage and its bidirectional functionality and efficiency. To validate the results, a prototype was developed at the laboratory, achieving a maximum efficiency of 94.8%.
