Hidden adversarial attack on facial biometrics - A comprehensive survey Sheilla Ann Bangoy Pacheco, Jheanel Espiritu Estrada, Mahesh M Goyani Procedia Computer Science, 2025 Deep learning models are widely used in pattern recognition and computer vision applications. Such models are susceptible to adversarial attacks like blur, noise, translation, flip, rotation, illumination change, etc. Their vulnerability to adversarial attacks poses critical challenges in terms of privacy, security, and reliability. Attackers target such systems and manipulate input or the model parameters to misbehave the model. Such attacks are big threats to authorization systems, such as criminal identification, attendance monitoring, surveillance, airport, and human-computer interaction (HCI) systems. Face recognition is one of the most widely used biometric systems and could be a soft target for attackers. This article presents a comprehensive study of adversarial attacks on face recognition systems, their implications, threat models, etc. By understanding the nature of adversarial threats and adopting robust defense strategies, can pave the way for safer and more trustworthy face recognition systems. This article summarized state-of-the-art adversarial attacks with their characteristics. The article also through lights on open research areas and the future scopes in the adversarial attack. This comprehensive review can serve as a ready-to-go reference for readers.
Least Variance based Modeling of Heart Disease Prediction System using Ensemble Technique 16th International Conference on Advances in Computing Control and Telecommunication Technologies Act 2025, 2025
Enhanced content-based image retrieval using multivisual features fusion Sheilla Ann Bangoy Pacheco, Mahesh Goyani, Zain G. Rehman, Sania F. Rehman, Tushar Champaneria, et al. International Journal of Computers and Applications, 2025 Traditional text-based image retrieval (TBIR) uses image metadata, like keywords, names, descriptions, etc. for image search. This approach often lacks accuracy, leading to the retrieval of irrelevant images. Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) leverages the actual content of image – such as color, texture, shape, and spatial information – to search through large datasets. CBIR provides better accuracy in image retrieval as it concentrates on the actual content instead of just metadata. We propose a system that combines various color, texture, and spatial features, such as Color Coherence Vector (CCV), Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG), Color Histogram, Color Moments, and Local Binary Pattern (LBP). Additionally, we applied Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to squeeze the high dimensionality of the features. We also optimized the features using Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), which simplifies the search process. We used three benchmark datasets, Corel-1K, Corel-10K, and GHIM-10K, for our experiment. The proposed method exhibits the Average Precision Rate (APR) of 99.74%, 97.30%, and 86.15% on Corel-1K, Corel-10K, and GHIM-10K datasets, respectively. The reported Average Recall Rate (ARR) is 9.75%, 9.73%, and 1.83% on respective datasets. We compared our work with many recent state-of-the-art methods, and the results show that it surpasses all of them.
Adapting face recognition to the masked world: leveraging deep attention networks with a custom dataset Himani Trivedi, Mahesh Goyani International Journal of Computers and Applications, 2024 In the era of COVID-19, past face recognition algorithms' performance is downgraded due to the partial occlusion of face mask. A new Indian face image dataset has been proposed titled, Handcrafted Indian Face (HIF) dataset, addressing the issues, viz. variegated illumination, pose, and partial occlusion conditions. It bridges the gap between the performance of the DL models used, pre and post COVID-19 effect. A novel idea for choosing the train-test sample has been presented in the paper, which improves the accuracy on existing state of art DL models. In this paper, a new DL architecture has been proposed named the InceptBlock Enhanced Attention Fusion Network (IBEAFNet) which consists of the combination of ECBAM (Enhanced Convolution Block Attention Module) and InceptionV3 architecture. The proposed architecture's attention layer placement allows it to suppress less relevant mask regions of face, while emphasizing on significant fine and coarse level features with reduced complexity. IBEAFNet is trained and tested on two existing datasets, viz. Casia & Yale (including simulated masked images) and the proposed HIF dataset. The performance of IBEAFNet is compared with the results fetched by changing the attention layers in IBEAFNet with the blocks of SENet and CBAM. IBEAFNet outperformed the state-of-art models with the accuracy of 91.00%, 89.5%, and 93.00% on CASIA, Yale, and HIF dataset, respectively.
A Transition of Face Recognition to Mask Face Recognition Using Improvised Attention DL Model Himani Trivedi, Mahesh Goyani 2023 3rd International Conference on Intelligent Technologies Conit 2023, 2023 With the emergence of the communicable fatal Covid-19 virus and increased level of air pollution, every individual is adapting to wear a facial mask now a days, due to which the existing Face Recognition Models are experiencing reduction in accuracy rate. The study in this paper is aimed to analyze the rate of drop in test accuracy for the task of face recognition from normal face recognition to the recognition of masked faces. Also, it targets to analyze the behavior of Convolution Block Attention mechanism with 10 different deep learning architectures as trunk branch. This paper discusses a novel idea to generate a sample space for training by various combinations of original face images, simulated masked faces and augmentation, from the original 2 datasets which improves the test accuracy of the models. The combination of InceptionV3+CBAM proves to be the best model with the peak accuracy of 88.78% & 88.62% and least model’s inference time of 512 & 923 milliseconds on Yale and Casia subset datset respectively among all other 9 implemented attention models. Moreover the proposed implementation of InceptionV3+CBAM also succeeds to achieve better accuracy as compared to existing models by using proposed set of dataset (Original face Images+ Simulated Mask faces+Augmentation) type for training.
Shot Segmentation and Replay Detection for Cricket Video Summarization Khushali R. Raval, Mahesh M. Goyani Proceedings of International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Sustainable Engineering Solution Cises 2023, 2023 Interest in video summarization is increased recently. People are fascinated by watching sports videos, but as videos are lengthy to watch and exciting events only occupy a small segment of the video, it is needed to represent such a long video in its precise and summarized view. Shot segmentation and replay detection are important tools in video analysis and can help automate many tasks related to video processing and content creation. It is noticed that exciting events in sports videos are usually replayed. We proposed an approach to detect cricket video shot boundaries and extract replay segments from the cricket video sequence. The proposed technique is simple and computationally effective. The results show the effectiveness and usefulness of an approach.
