NEUROSCIENCE-INFORMED INSTRUCTION AND ITS IMPACT ON COGNITIVE ENGAGEMENT AND EXECUTIVE FUNCTION AMONG EFL LEARNERS Neda Fatehi Rad, Mina Mahdavi, Kamran Rabani Llt Journal Journal on Language and Language Teaching, 2026 In many EFL classrooms, teachers still rely on traditional, teacher-centred practices that may not fully support how the brain learns. Neuroscience-informed instruction (NII) has been proposed as an approach that may help improve learners’ attention and self-control during learning. This study examined the extent to which NII may influence Iranian EFL learners’ cognitive engagement and executive function. Using a quasi-experimental design, twenty-eight intermediate learners in two intact classes at a private language institute in Kerman, Iran, were assigned to an experimental group receiving NII and a control group taught through conventional practices. NII strategies included spaced repetition, emotionally meaningful tasks, multimodal activities, and guided reflection. The control group followed textbook-centred instruction. Cognitive engagement and executive function were measured using the Cognitive Engagement Subscale of the Classroom Engagement Inventory and the Executive Function Index. Results indicated greater improvement in both variables for the experimental group. Although effect sizes were substantial, they should be interpreted cautiously given the small sample and intact-class design. The findings suggest that carefully structured NII may support learners’ mental involvement and self-regulation in EFL contexts. Implications and recommendations are discussed.
Unraveling the Drivers of Teacher Exhaustion in Language Education: A Deep Drive into Internal and External Factors Hamed Barjesteh, Phawani Vijayaratnam, Neda Fatehi Rad, Moazameh Golkar Rafsanjani, Hossein Isaee, Hamenaz Gholipour Forum for Linguistic Studies, 2025 Exhaustion is a feeling sensed in different jobs, including English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching, for various reasons. This study explored internal and external factors leading to Iranian EFL teachers’ sense of exhaustion. In so doing, a basic interpretive design was used to collect data using one-to-one semi-structured interviews. The participants of the present study included 30 (15 males and 15 females) Iranian EFL teachers selected through availability sampling from universities, high schools, and language institutes in Kerman, Iran. The researcher asked the participants to answer the semi-structured interview questions individually to collect the data. The interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim for thematic analysis. Data analysis was conducted through qualitative thematic analysis. As revealed by the results, the following internal factors lead to Iranian EFL teachers’ exhaustion: Lack of enjoyment, anxiety, fatigue, and lack of emotional support and respect. Moreover, it was revealed that the following external factors lead to Iranian EFL teachers’ exhaustion: Financial problems, educational facilities, the language proficiency of students, students' low willingness to learn, students' impoliteness, annual teacher assessment procedures, results of formative assessments, and parents' behaviors. The findings have some implications for EFL teachers, students, parents, and authorities especially in improving quality of education. Keywords: English as a foreign language, exhaustion, hope, self-efficacy, teacher effectiveness, quality of education
Digital Literacy of Iranian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Teachers: Teaching Experience in Focus Hamed Barjestesh, Phawani. Vijaymmm, Marziyeh Sabzevari, Neda Fatehi Rad, Kamran Rabani, Mehdi Manoochehrzadeh Forum for Linguistic Studies, 2025 Contrary to the importance of digital literacy in making English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education congruent with the recent technological advancements, a scrutiny of the pertinent literature in this regard is evident. To address this gap, this investigation seeks to investigate Iranian experienced and novice EFL teachers’ digital literacy within a comparative stance. Using a quantitative survey design, the data was collected via Digital Literacy Questionnaire. The participants taking part in this research included 200 conveniently selected EFL teachers (100 novice and 100 experienced teachers), holding all levels of academic degree in TEFL, English Language and Literature, and English Translation fields, with diverse years of teaching experience across various schools and institutions in Iran. The collected questionnaires were analyzed through one sample t-test and independent sample-test. The study found that EFL teachers demonstrated strong proficiency across a range of digital skills, such as typing, web searching, and utilizing digital learning tools. Moreover, no significant difference in digital literacy was identified between novice and experienced teachers which suggests both groups have similar levels of competence in terms of digital technologies. The findings hold important implications for a wide range of stakeholders, including EFL policymakers, teachers, teacher trainers, and researchers. They provide insights that can be used to improve educational policies and refine teaching practices.
Perceived Effectiveness of a Positive Thinking Training Course on Professional Identity: Reconciliation of Bipolar English as a Foreign Language Teachers With Positive Thinking , Mahdieh Ghalandari, Neda Fatehi Rad, , Peyman Seifadini, and Iranian Rehabilitation Journal, 2024 Objectives: About 5% of the world’s population suffer from bipolar disorder. These people, in general, and teachers in particular, have many personal, social, and working problems. Different approaches, such as positive thinking, have been suggested to cope with such issues. Moreover, professional identity, similar to general identity, has been applied in various ways in teacher and instructor training. Using a basic interpretive design, we explored perceptions of English foreign language (EFL) teachers with bipolar disorder and the effectiveness of a training course on positive thinking on their professional identity. Methods: The participants consisted of 25 (16 males and 9 females) bipolar EFL teachers who were purposefully selected from EFL teachers teaching in private language institutes in Kerman City, Iran. A bipolar spectrum diagnostic scale and a semi-structured interview were used to collect the study data. Also, a positive thinking training course was developed to be administered in ten 60-minute sessions. Results: Regarding the effectiveness of the positive thinking training course on professional identity, the output of a thematic analysis of the interviews conducted with bipolar EFL teachers were as follows: Improvement in communicative and motivational skills, enhancement of willingness to reach professional development and classroom management skills, working on English language proficiency, seeking the best teaching methods, attention to students’ needs, enhancement of verbal skills, and reducing teaching fear. Discussion: The research results help people participate in bipolar tests and psychological studies and strive for their mental health. It will also create a spirit of hope in patients. The findings have some implications for EFL teacher education administrators and bipolar EFL teachers. Training on positive thinking skills can contribute to positive changes and orientations in EFL bipolar teachers, reconstructing their professional identity.
Designing a Quality-oriented Organizational Structure Model Based on the Emotional Intelligence of the Staff of Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex in Tehran Mohammadreza Shahbazimoghaddam, Alireza Manzari Tavakoli, Sanjar Salajegheh, Hamidreza Molaei, Navid Fatehi Rad Sadra Medical Sciences Journal, 2023 Introduction: This study aims to design an organizational structure model based on comprehensive quality and emotional intelligence components in the Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex in Tehran. Methods: This cross-sectional study was based on a questionnaire. The components were determined by library study in the form of the initial proposed model and validation by experts in management and healthcare. The research tools included the measurement of consumers' expectations and understanding, Al Omran hospital service quality indicators, and Salovey and Mir's emotional intelligence feelings. Two hundred seventy-three questionnaires were sent online to the samples with random stratified sampling. Exploratory and confirmatory factors were analyzed to check validity and reliabilityResults: Eight components of quality structure dimensions positively affected eight quality service components, and eight components of quality structure dimensions had the greatest impact on "moral obligation,". It had the least impact on "space beauty" among the eight quality service components. All three components of emotional intelligence positively affected eight components of quality structure dimensions and eight components of quality services. However, emotional intelligence had the greatest effect on "determining strategic goals," and the least effect on the "size" of the quality component. Furthermore, the quality service dimension component had the greatest effect on "moral obligation" and the least on "environmental beauty".Conclusion: Considering the mediating effect of emotional intelligence on the relationship between structure and quality-oriented services, it is necessary to pay attention to the factors affecting the hospitals' organizational structure.
AN INTERPRETATION-LADEN SCRUTINY OF PRACTITIONERS’ PERSPECTIVES ABOUT TRANSLATION CHALLENGES Neda Fatehi Rad Cadernos De Traducao, 2022 Translators' attitudes toward interpreting texts were examined in this study. Additional goals included uncovering common difficulties in translation and recommending methods for overcoming these issues for those involved in the field. A cluster sampling method was used to select 60 translators from Kerman and the surrounding area based on gender and ethnicity. This study included a questionnaire and a structured interview as its primary tools. All of the participants received questionnaires and filled them out in accordance with the instructions. A random sample of twenty translators was then picked for a structured interview. SPSS was used to perform the final analysis on all of the data. A large majority of respondents felt that the difficulties of translating texts go beyond cultural differences to include linguistic ones as well. They also used dictionaries and Babylon translators' tactics to get over the difficulties of translating texts.
