Dr. S.Murugesan is a distinguished botanist, researcher, and academic leader with over 23 years of experience. As Head of the Department of Botany, they drive research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and institutional growth.
Specializing in algal research and has led three UGC-funded projects, published 161 research papers, 5 books, and 10 book chapters, and holds a patent. They have reviewed 125 international journals, served as Associate Editor for five publications, and mentored 51 M.Phil and 12 Ph.D. scholars.
Honored with Distinguished Scientist and Best Paper Awards, they have also held leadership roles, including Chairperson of the Board of Studies at the University of Madras. Their vision includes global collaborations, innovation parks, AI-driven research, and securing additional funding to position VISTAS as a leader in research excellence.

I obtained my B.Sc and M.Sc degrees from Madurai Kamaraj University, as well as my B.Ed, M.Phil, and Ph.D from the University of Madras.
