    This paper dives into the design and analysis of an H-shaped Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) that works within the sub-6 GHz band. We've optimized the structure for 3.5 GHz to effectively manage how electromagnetic waves propagate. To assess its performance, we conducted a thorough analysis of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\varphi$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\theta$</tex> angles, which showed that it maintains stable resonant behavior even with varying incident angles. The square unit cell has a period of is 53.95mm with height 1.6mm fabricated on FR-4 substrate. S11 of the unit cell is −25 indicating its reflection performance making it suitable 5G application. The unit cell performance is optimal with theta variation up to 70° and phi is stable in angles from 0° to 30° and 150° to 180°.
  • Study of Metamaterial Unit Cell for 5G Applications

    This paper illustrates the design and analysis of a metamaterial unit cell intended to function at 3.5 GHz for 5G communication systems. The proposed construction is meant to achieve a controllable <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\pi$</tex>-phase variation, enabling dynamic manipulation of the reflected wave direction through <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\theta$</tex> (theta) variation. The electromagnetic behavior of the metamaterial is analyzed under different <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\theta$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\varphi$</tex> incidence angles to evaluate its stability and tunability. Simulation results confirm stable resonance at 3.5 GHz with minimal deviation in reflection and transmission characteristics across varying incidence conditions. The proposed design demonstrates strong angular stability, compactness, and cost-effectiveness, making it suitable for implementation in wireless transmission systems. The study highlights the potential of the proposed metamaterial for efficient beam steering, enhanced gain, and improved signal coverage in sub-6 GHz 5G communication environments.
  • DGS enabled compact implantable antenna with minimal SAR for biomedical applications

    In this article, a circular compact implantable microstrip antenna is presented for bio telemetry. The proposed slotted circular patch antenna with a split ring in ground plane is constructed on dual sided Roger 6,010 with superstrate on the radiating patch leading to a volume of 33.35 mm 3 . The antenna resonates at 2.46 GHz ISM band with | S 11 | = −31.22 dB and has a gain of −37.9 dBi. According to IEEE and FCC regulations, human safety is ensured by evaluating the radiation absorption rate in the body and is considerably below the SAR threshold of 1.6 W/kg or 2 W/kg for 1 g or 10 g of body tissues. The maximum input power level for SAR limitation is 8.5 mW for 1 g and 11.5 mW for 10 gms of tissues. Homogeneous and heterogeneous body models are used for practical analysis. Antenna performance is analyzed on various body tissues, such as the liver, heart, muscle, and head phantom and validated using pork liver, heart, minced meat and with saline water. A link budget analysis is also performed for transmission coverage of the antenna using HFSS simulation and experimentally validated with LabVIEW and NI-USRP module. The findings indicate that the antenna is appropriate for implantable application for real time environment covering up to 15 m.

    Bio implants are popularized in health care industry for patient monitoring. This article presents an ultraminiaturized flexible slotted patch antenna with superstrate for bio implantable applications. The radiator is designed on Roger 6010 with dimension 5 × 6.2 × 0.508 mm3 which is 0.130 × 0.161 × 0.012λ g at 2.45 GHz. The superstrate ensures protection of body tissues and reduces SAR. Achieved gain and bandwidth of the antenna in free space are −27.07dBi and 30 MHz, respectively. Antenna bandwidth on body tissues like stomach, heart and liver are 124 MHz, 138 MHz and 175 MHz, respectively. SAR analysis is carried out using both homogeneous and heterogeneous human body models for 1 g and 10 g tissues during simulation. Head, heart, liver and stomach phantom shows simulated SAR value of 33.53 W/Kg, 52.49 W/Kg, 32.49 W/Kg and 31.37 W/Kg, respectively for 1 g tissue with 1 W input power and is within IEEE standard limit of 1.6 W/Kg with maximum allowable power of 47 mW, 30 mW, 48 mW and 50 mW. Performance validation of antenna is done with liver, heart and minced meat of pork for body tissues. Brain tissue is mimicked with saline solution. The link budget analysis is performed using NI-USRP 2920 module and LabVIEW with data transfer at a transmission rate of 1/2/5 Mbps and shows a wireless transmission link of 15 m for bio telemetry.
  • A flexible wideband wearable CPW antenna for WBAN application

    This article presents a wideband wearable antenna with flexible substrate for Body Area Network application. The designed coplanar antenna has a return loss bandwidth of 3.5 GHz ranging from 5.15 GHz to 8.65 GHz with maximum return loss at 5.8 GHz (45.9 dB) and 7.4 GHz (31.4 dB). The average gain of the antenna is 4.069 dB. The obtained specific absorption rate of the antenna is below the FCC reference limit of 1.6 W/Kg per 1 g of tissue, making it suitable for biomedical application.
  • An Implantable Endoscopic Antenna for Ulcer Monitoring in ISM and 5G

    This paper present a miniaturized implantable antenna targeted toward real-time medical ulcer monitoring within the body of a living person. Using a Roger 6010 substrate, it achieves efficient performances in dual operations of 2.45 GHz as well as at 3.7 GHz working at ISM and 5G bands that go hand in hand for medical sensing and data transmission applications. Antenna with tiny size of radius 4.5mm and thickness being 0.324 mm, is very easy to implant and it works very well at the biological interface. The antenna has been designed to be highly sensitive, for which the return losses of -19 dB and -15 dB for frequencies 2.45 GHz and 3.7GHz respectively. This could be an indication of effective impedance matching and low signal reflection, which are necessary for the accurate data transmission. Even though the antenna will be exposed to the lossy biological medium, there is an achievable gain of -33.27 dB and -16.44 dB, for 2.45 GHz and 3.7 GHz resulting in sufficient level of signal energy for localized data transfer. The circular polarized antenna is compact, with high-efficiency promising to be a good solution for implantable ulcer monitoring, providing dependable performance for accurate, stable monitoring within the human body.

    This article explores the development of a dual band miniaturized antenna for ICP monitoring. With the rise in requirement of instantaneous non-invasive monitoring in critical care settings solutions, the proposed antenna aims to provide reliable communication for ICP monitoring devices. The antenna is made operational at ISM bands at 1.4 GHz and 2.4 GHz using Rogers RO6010 and miniature in size (5 × 5.5 × 0.57 mm3). The dual band return losses are -19.2 dB and -14.8 dB respectively at 1.4 GHz and at 2.45 GHz. Simulation results reveal excellent return loss, high gain, and radiation patterns across the targeted frequencies. Its lightweight and biocompatible design and enhancing patient comfort while providing accurate and continuous ICP measurements. SAR analysis is performed with head phantom model to ensure safety with maximum input power of 67 mW. This antenna is a suitable choice for ICP monitoring.
