The present study investigates the influence of curing parameters, i.e., temperature, time, and bench-pressing pressure, on the microstructural evolution and the degree of conversion, which significantly affect the mechanical properties of heat-cured PMMA denture base polymers. Nanoindentation results reveal that the mechanical properties improve considerably with higher curing temperature and longer curing time, as evidenced by an 88% increase in Young’s modulus and a four times increase in hardness. The optical photomicrographs, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy elucidate the effect of systematic variations in curing parameters in the microstructure. The 12-month aging study reveals an increment of 5–10% in the mechanical properties, which is not changing after immersing in artificial saliva (pH 6.8) for 14 days. This comprehensive analysis provides insight into the microstructure-mechanical property correlation, which is important in optimizing PMMA denture base fabrication to enhance clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
A Study of Electronic and Magnetic Properties of Transition Metal Trihalides Shrestha Dutta, Sachin Varma, Payel Bandyopadhyay, Rudra Banerjee Aip Conference Proceedings, 2024 We present the electronic and magnetic structure calculations of VCl3, VBr3, CrCl3 and CrBr3. The results are obtained by density functional theory with plane wave basis sets. The trihalides generally optimize either in trigonal or monoclinic structures. We have focused on the effect of symmetry on the electronic and magnetic properties of the systems. We have found that magnetic moments change considerably depending on the symmetry. Both CrX3 have shown a bandgap around 2eV while the V-based systems have shown half-metallic properties.

Today we cannot think of life without glass. Its application covers a truly spectacular range. Simple household crockery and tea cups, car windshields, and gadget screens are examples. In all these applications contact-induced deformation and sudden catastrophic failure is a matter of huge concern. Thus, household, technological, archaeological, and industrial relevance and, hence, the importance of glass deformation and fracture are of tremendous importance today. Therefore, this chapter focuses on the physics of deformation and fracture of glass at microstructural length scale. First, the different related concepts are described. Next, the available knowledge base is briefly summarized. Then, the special definitive experimental techniques to study the deformation and fracture of glass at microstructural length scales are elaborated. Finally, recent experimental observations made by the authors are presented.
