  • The Melodies of Faith: Exploring Rituals and Chants of Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi Celebrations in Sudan
    Omar Mohammad-Ameen Ahmad Hazaymeh
Journal of Religion in Africa, 2026
This paper explores the celebration of Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, in Sudan. This celebration is characterized by elaborate processions, zikr (remembrance of God), the lighting of mosques and homes, and the distribution of food. These rituals foster a sense of unity, spiritual connection, and communal generosity. Chants, including Madih (praise poetry) and Sufi Qasaʾid, play a crucial role in expressing love and reverence for the Prophet. The study recommends preserving these traditions to maintain cultural heritage and promote communal harmony. Additionally, it suggests further research into the impact of these celebrations on community cohesion and spiritual well-being. In conclusion, the celebration of Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi in Sudan is a vibrant expression of religious devotion and cultural identity, reflecting the profound love and reverence Sudanese Muslims have for Prophet Muhammad.
  • Chronicles of an era: themes in Arar’s poetry
    Omar Mohammad-Ameen Ahmad Hazaymeh
British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, 2026
This paper goes into the thematic essence of Arar, whose poetry intertwines personal and cultural identity with broader social issues, presenting a powerful reflection of his time. Among the prominent themes explored are his vivid portrayals of wine, which symbolize both escape and rebellion, and patriotism, where his deep-rooted love for Jordan surfaces as both pride and critique. Social injustice is another central theme, as Arar often challenges prevailing inequities and advocates for marginalized voices. His bond with nature reveals a poetic appreciation for Jordan’s landscapes, infusing his work with a sense of belonging and serenity. Arar’s relationship with the Alnawar is particularly compelling, highlighting his empathy for marginalized communities and his own feeling of displacement within society. Love and religion further enrich his work, presenting a complex fusion of spiritual longing, secular struggles, and societal expectations. Through an exploration of these themes, the paper aims to illustrate how Arar’s poetry serves as both an introspective journey and a commentary on the socio-political landscape, solidifying his legacy as a vital voice in modern Jordanian literary scene.

  • Toward fair citation metrics: Introducing the haz-index
Ahmad M. A. Hazaymeh, Khaled Hazaymeh, Omar Mohammad-Ameen Ahmad Hazaymeh
    Edpacs, 2026
In this paper, we have provided a detailed evaluation of the indices (i10), (h) and (g), and explained the general mechanism by which the indices work, which is the mechanism of strict numbers and fluctuating numbers, and we proved that there is a paradox in the indices that combines bias and justice. Then, we made five new proposals to increase the sole authorship. First, we introduced a new index at the author level, which addressed the flaws in the current indices, such as the problem of the inflation of the number of papers published in one year for the author, and the problem of the equal number of citations for all authors participating in one article with the fact that their efforts were not equal in writing the article. The second and third: we presented two additional indices, which are the index of the first author and the index of the single author. Fourth, we propose adding an optional official acknowledgments list to the submission system of the journal websites. Finally, we proposed a great development of Google Scholar to increase the sole authorship.
  • INTERACTIVE SIGN SINGING AND EMBODIED SONG FOR THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING USING HOLOGRAM TECHNOLOGY
    Omar Mohammad-Ameen Ahmad Hazaymeh
    Translation Matters, 2025
This study investigates the impact of hologram singing technology on the experiences of the deaf and hard of hearing. The research aims to evaluate how effectively this technology enhances understanding and interaction with musical content by integrating sign language into holographic performances. An experimental approach was employed, involving a diverse sample of deaf individuals divided into two groups: one exposed to hologram technology and another that was not. Results indicated that participants utilizing holograms demonstrated a better understanding of songs and engaged more actively with the artistic performance. The study recommends expanding the use of hologram technology in arts and music to promote inclusivity and emphasizes the necessity for developing software that improves the accuracy of converting audio signals into embodied movements. Furthermore, fostering collaboration between artists and developers is crucial for broadening future applications of this technology, ultimately enhancing the cultural quality of life for the targeted groups.
  • BILINGUALISM IN THE JORDANIAN-RUSSIAN FAMILY RESIDING IN JORDAN AND ITS IMPACT ON COMMUNICATION BETWEEN ITS MEMBERS
    Omar Mohammad-Ameen Ahmad Hazaymeh
    Sustainable Multilingualism, 2025
This research examines bilingualism in Jordanian-Russian families in Jordan, focusing on its impact on family interaction, cultural identity, and everyday communication. Using a qualitative approach that included interviews, participant observation, and language diaries, the study analyzed language use patterns within the family. The results showed that intersentential code-switching was the most common strategy, with children frequently alternating between Arabic and Russian within the same sentence. This strategy aligns with the Equivalence Constraint Theory, which posits that switching occurs at points where the grammatical structures of both languages align. For example, one child reported starting a sentence in Arabic and ending it in Russian due to the deeper meaning certain words convey in each language. Additionally, situational code-switching was observed, as children adjusted their language use based on the context, particularly when accommodating their parents’ varying proficiency levels, reflecting Communication Accommodation Theory. The study also found that bilingualism significantly affects the formation of children’s cultural identity, with some children developing a dual affiliation while others lean toward a single cultural identity. For example, children immersed in Jordanian society and Arabic-dominant settings identified more closely with Jordanian culture, while those with stronger ties to their Russian-speaking mothers and frequent visits to Russia maintained a deeper connection to Russian culture. The research highlights the challenges faced by Russian mothers in maintaining their native language at home and the importance of a supportive environment for bilingualism. It recommends enhancing parents’ understanding of the impact of bilingualism on their children, promoting balanced educational methods for integrated language development, and developing educational resources to support learning Russian alongside Arabic in the Jordanian context.

  • Gender and Religion: A Typology of Female Names in Sudan
    Omar Mohammad-Ameen Ahmad Hazaymeh
    Onomastica Desde America Latina, 2025
This study aims to analyze the impact of Islam on the choice of female names in Sudan through a semantic analytical approach to explore female names associated with Islam from a cultural and religious perspective. The research’s motivation stems from the significant role that names play in identity formation and the transmission of cultural and religious values. Despite the extensive body of literature on Islamic naming traditions, little attention has been given to the specific case of Sudan. This study hopes to contribute in showing how Islam affects names in Sudanese society. To achieve this, female names associated with Islam were collected from various Sudanese regions to shed light on their types. As for the methodology, after collecting the names they were categorized under headings to show the Islamic sources from which they were taken. The study relied on the works in the theoretical framework about names in their cultural, social and religious contexts and those explore Islamic and Arabic onomastics. The findings reveal that many Sudanese female names are deeply rooted in Islamic heritage, reflecting moral and spiritual values that parents wish to instill in their children. Some names are intentionally chosen to affirm religious identity, reinforcing the connection between personal identity and the broader Islamic religious framework. This research contributes to the field by highlighting the impact of religion in naming practices. It reflects the importance of raising awareness about the socio-religious significance of names and recommends integrating these discussions into educational curricula. The study calls for initiatives that encourage parents to engage with Islamic heritage in naming their children while also considering the broader cultural and historical dimensions of Sudanese society and to promote a deeper understanding of the cultural and religious significance of names in shaping identity, social belonging, and conveying religious values.
  • East and West in Harmony: A Comparative Study of Arabic and English Proverbs
    Omar Mohammad-Ameen Ahmad Hazaymeh
Comparative Literature East and West, 2025
This paper presents a contrastive review of similar proverbs in Arabic and English, aiming to explore cultural and linguistic nuances within each language. The objective is to identify shared wisdom, values, and social insights while highlighting differences in cultural contexts that shape these expressions. Through a qualitative analysis of selected proverbs, the study investigates their meanings, usage, and implications in daily communication. Findings indicate that while many proverbs in both languages convey parallel messages, subtle variances arise due to cultural, historical, and social factors unique to each. These findings suggest that proverbs reflect deeper societal attitudes and traditions, and their interpretation is context-dependent. The paper recommends further cross-cultural studies on proverbs to enhance understanding of linguistic diversity. In conclusion, this study underscores the importance of proverbs as cultural artifacts, offering insight into both the universal and specific human experience across Arabic and English.
  • Death and Funeral Customs in Jordanian Society
    Omar Mohammad-Ameen Ahmad Hazaymeh
    Omega United States, 2025
This research aims to examine how Jordanian society deals with death from a cultural and social perspective, focusing on the rituals associated with it. The research adopted a descriptive and analytical approach to document and analyze the stages of funeral rites, from the moment the death is announced until after the funeral, while monitoring the transformations that have occurred in these rituals due to technological developments and economic pressures. The research concludes that death rituals in Jordan constitute an integrated system that combines religious teachings and social customs, and plays a prominent role in strengthening group solidarity and consolidating cultural identity, despite the gradual changes they are witnessing. The research recommends conducting comparative studies between different religious and ethnic environments in Jordan, analyzing the impact of digital media on death rituals, and calling for the scientific documentation of these rituals to preserve them as part of Jordan’s intangible cultural heritage.
