Sanskrit and Prakrit appear to be two varieties being used simultaneously in different situations of speech. Both Sanskrit and Prakrit have changed over the period of time – often mixing with each other in identifiable forms if we can deduce the linguistic (grammatical) rules. In the proposed project, I will study the Sanskrit and Prakrit grammatical traditions (including Pali grammatical tradition as Pali is a variety of Prakrit) putting them parallel to understand the grammatical rules (sutra-s) so as to identify the possible pedagogical methods to teach varieties of Prakrit to those who know Sanskrit. The purpose of this project is to identify the changes in the language forms that may help us learn and understand different varieties of Prakrit on the basis of Sanskrit. This understanding may help us look at the modern Indian languages with a perspective that may help us establish the similarities in their forms (pronunciation and other phonological details) along with similarities
