  • SYNTHESIS OF ACTIVATED CARBON POWDER PREPARED FROM THE EGGPLANT AS AN ADSORBENT FOR THE REMOVAL CONGO RED FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION
, Ismael S. Mahmood, Mustafa R. Mohammed, Mohammed A. Hussein
International Journal of Ecosystems and Ecology Science, 2025
This work used eggplant as a precursor for preparing activated carbon through chemical activation by H3PO4.Using batch adsorption experiments, eggplant activated carbon was investigated for removing Congo red (CR) dye.The synthesized AC samples were evaluated as adsorbents for the elimination of a synthetic aqueous solution of the Congo red (CR) dye.Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in combination with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy and physisorption measurements, the physical characteristics, morphology, elemental analysis, and specific surface area (BET) of the activated carbon (AC) were all described and assessed. When the starting CR dye concentration was 90 mg/L, pH was 4, the adsorbent dose was 0.2 g/L, and the equilibrium contact period was 120 minutes, the highest ACEP removal efficiency of CR was 98.95%.The adsorption data fit better with the Freundlich (R = 0.96) isotherm model than the Langmuir (R = 0.93) model and express the multilayer adsorption on heterogeneous surfaces. The maximum adsorption capacity was 72.44 mg/g.The kinetics data were fitted well to the pseudo-second-order model (R = 0.99).The study results showed that eggplant activated carbon adsorbed CR effectively and could be used as a low-cost potential bio adsorbent for the removal of anionic dyes in wastewater treatment.
  • Preparation and Diagnosis of Activated Carbon from Hydrothermally Carbonized Sucrose as an Adsorption for the Removal Methyl Red Dye from Aqueous Synthetic Solutions
Mustafa Raqeeb Mohammed, Omar B. Al-Obaidi, Mahmood Ismael, S., Ahmed Al-Mamoori
Iranian Journal of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, 2024
In this work, activated carbon-derived hydrothermally carbonized sucrose material was synthesized, chemically activated with KOH, and then utilized as an adsorbent material for removal of Methyl Red (MR) dye from wastewater. The physiochemical characteristics of the Activated Carbon (AC) were analyzed employing Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, and N2physisorption measurements to characterize and assess the physical features, morphology, elemental analysis, and specific surface area. The obtained AC showed a high specific surface area (2306.31 m2/g). The capability of activated carbon to remove MR dye from aqueous solutions has also been investigated. The impact of initial concentration, adsorbent dose, temperature, and contact time on the adsorption capacity was examined to determine the adsorption isotherm. Maximum adsorption capacity (52.29mg/g for 90 mg/L) and fast adsorption kinetic (98 percent saturated within 5 min) were obtained. The numerical data fitted well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model (R2=0.98). The Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherm models were also examined. The adsorption thermodynamics demonstrated that MR adsorption by AC was a spontaneous and endothermic process.
  • Adsorption of remove methyl green dye from wastewater by using fava bean peel waste: Kinetic and thermodynamic studies
    Ali A. T. Al-Sadoon, Mustafa R. Mohammed, Mohammed S. M. Al-Tameemi
    Aip Conference Proceedings, 2023
Adsorption of Methyl Green dye using Fava Bean Peel Waste was investigated in detail by conducting batch kinetic, thermodynamic and desorption experiments. Experimental data found appear that adsorption method was highly dependent on equilibrium time, adsorbent amount, and initial concentration of dye and pH solution. The sorption equilibrium for Methyl Green dye via Fava Bean Peel Waste was reached within 30 minutes and removal percentage of up to 82%. The result appear isotherm Freundlich gave the better fit comparative with Langmuir isotherm., Thermodynamic quantities including Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, entropy was evaluated, the negative values for each (ΔG° and ΔH°) obtained indicated the spontaneous and exothermic process and negative value of ΔS° is indicate decreased randomness during the process of adsorption.
  • A critical review of organic pollutants in Refinery wastewater by advanced oxidation processes
Ali Al-Sadoon, Ekhlas Salman, Mustafa Mohammed
Journal of University of Anbar for Pure Science, 2022
Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), for instance Ozone, Fenton process, photo Fenton, photolysis, photo-catalysis, and photolysis of hydrogen peroxide and photolysis of ozone have remained inspected widely aimed at the elimination of a wide variety of organic pollutants (OPs). AOP without UV might not attain complete elimination of a comprehensive group of OPS. When combined with UV, AOPs produce additional free radicals, consequently execution improved squalor of the OPS. This review briefly deliberates the individual AOPs and their limits in the direction of the squalor of OPS comprising diverse useful collections. It too categorizes AOPs and lengthily clarifies their efficiency aimed at the squalor of a wide variety of OPS. Underneath suitable circumstances, AOPs not solitary initiate squalor nonetheless might too principal to whole mineralization. Numerous issues can affect the competence of procedures counting the chemistry of water and the organic molecular structure for instance, the attendance of organic content in water can have an important influence. In general, these organic also change toward high redox possible radicals upon crash with additional reactive species and upsurge the rates of reaction, or might performance by way of radical scavengers and reduction the development competence .
  • Study the Ability of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to Remove Methyl Green Dye from Water as a Pollutant Agent
    Mohammed S. M. Al-Tameemi, Mustafa R. Mohammed, Ali A. T. Al-Sadoon
Journal of Chemical Health Risks, 2022
Biosorption ability of commercial dried Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Baker’s yeast), to remove the Methyl green dye from water, was studied. This dye was chosen due to wide using of it in the different industries which is dumped into wastewater. With a view to explore the optimum conditions for adsorption of dye, Batch experiments were performed under various experimental affecting conditions, which are dye concentration, temperature, contact time. The experiment's batches were held using various initial concentrations of dye from 10 to 50 mg L-1, absorbent (Baker's yeast) dosage 0.075g at diverse temperatures (20, 30 and 40°C), and pH=7. In which the results have shown when the temperature increased the adsorption efficiency increased too. The removal percentage (%R) of dye by the baker’s yeast reached equilibrium after 80 minutes. As well as, adsorption isotherm models (Freundlich and Langmuir) were studied. The maximum biosorption capacity values were calculated at mentioned conditions. Furthermore, Kinetic and Thermodynamic parameters were calculated for this adsorption process, which are indicating the process is endothermic, spontaneous process in nature and follow pseudo 2. Order model.
