  • Assertiveness as a New Strategy for Physical Education Students to Maintain Academic Performance

    Serious problems occur in social life. In several cases in Indonesia, students often abuse their group collectivity and social relations with disciplinary behaviour such as following peer persuasion to spend much time hangout so that students neglect to manage study time, complete study assignments, and even be absent from lectures.. However, other students have managed to control unproductive social relations (persuasion to hang out during class hours, inducement not to do coursework, and others) to stabilize their academic performance with assertiveness. This explore student assertiveness strategies. At the same time, they were projecting strategic assertiveness protocols to maintain their academic performance. This qualitative study involved 11 purposefully sampled university students. Student assertiveness strategies were explored using observation, interview, and documentation techniques. Spardley’s (1979) domain analysis technique and Miles and Huberman's (1994) analytical procedure were used to find meaning and project assertive syntax. The study results suggest that students tend to show assertiveness, permissiveness, and aggressiveness in effective dialogue, constructive feedback, conflict resolution, and non-verbal communication domains. However, students who had good academic performance were more effective in using assertiveness. Furthermore, our study identified six strategic models (syntax) that students use to maintain their academic performance, namely: (1) being open, objective, and rational in expressing their aspirations, (2) being firm and brave when making decisions, (3) believing in one's abilities, (4) prioritizing priorities, (5) carry out obligations without disturbing the rights of other colleagues, and (6) accept differences of opinion/views. As a result, students can use assertiveness to maintain and control destructive behaviour in their environment and social relations to remain achievers while keeping being friendly in maintaining and building social relationships. Lecturers and administrators need to do assertive training and assistance to their students on an ongoing basis so that students have additional soft skills that help them succeed in the academic field and the future.
  • The Use of Mode Deactivation Counseling as Evidence-Based Counseling Approach for Adolescents

    Mode Deactivation Counseling is proposed as a new model in counseling services in schools.This research examines the usefulness of Mode Deactivation Counseling as an evidence-based counseling approach for adolescents.The research method used is a literature review.Based on in-depth study and analysis, Deactivation Counseling Mode can be used as a counseling approach, especially for adolescents to overcome mild to severe problems in the level of adolescent awareness.
  • Counselor Strategies to Reduce Online Gaming Addiction through Creative Cognitive-Behavior Group Counseling

    The purpose of this study is to mengetahui keberterimaan produk yang berupa Creative Cognitive Behavior Group Counseling
\ndalam mereduksi kecanduan game online. Penelitian ini menggunakan pola penelitian dan pengembangan Born & Galls yang
\nterdiri dari tahap studi pendahuluan, tahap pengembangan produk, dan tahap evaluasi. The participants of this study were 20
\nstudents who were taken randomly. The study involved two guidance and counseling experts, guidance and counseling media,
\nand product users to assess the acceptability of the product. Meanwhile, to test the effectiveness of the product, it involved 60
\nparticipants, both control and experimental groups. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis to describe the level
\nof online game addiction. In addition, this study uses analysis quantitavite descriptive to identify the degree of acceptance of
\nthe product. The analysis of the product effectiveness test using the Independent Sample T-Test. The results of the descriptive
\nstudy show that online game addiction is a problem that needs the counselor’s attention, one of which is by implementing
\nCognitive Behavior Group Counseling. The Cognitive Behavior Group Counseling has high acceptability and effectively reduces
\nstudent online game addiction. This study’s results should be material and consideration for further research to identify the
\ncompatibility of the characteristics of the school counselor in Indonesian with Group Counseling Services.
  • Applying the Rasch Model to Develop the Religious Motivation Scale for Junior High School Students in Online Learning in the New Normal Era in Indonesia

    Religious morals are important to be explored in each student in participating in learning in the new normal era. The purpose of this study is to develop a religious motivation scale instrument that can be used to photograph students' religious motivation in this new normal era. Research applies ADDIE research and development design. Participants in the development of the religious motivation scale instrument consisted of 2,880 students in junior high schools in grades VII, VIII, and IX spread across Indonesia, which were selected through convenience sampling technique. Analysis of data from filling the religious motivation scale using the Rasch model technique. The results of research and development show that there are two items that are misfit, namely item numbers 8 and 12. Item number 8 reads: "I took lessons to practice the knowledge I gained in order to get a reward from Allah", while item number 12 reads: "The lessons I have followed have strengthened me to stay away from bad deeds". After confirmation, it was found that item number 8 and number 12 were the most difficult items to approve.
  • Peace Guidance Based on the Perspective of Markesot: Acceptability and Effectiveness of Reducing Student Aggressiveness

    This study aims to identify the acceptability and effectiveness of peace guidance based on the perspective of Markesot. This model seeks to reduce student aggressiveness. This study uses the research and development stages by adapting the Borg & Gall model. The participants of this study were 275 students who were taken randomly. The study involved two guidance and counseling experts, guidance and counseling media, and product users to assess the acceptability of the product. Meanwhile, to test the effectiveness of the product, it involved 210 participants, both control and experimental groups. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis to describe the level of aggressiveness. In addition, this study uses Cohens Kappa's interrater reliability (IRR) coefficient to identify expert and user agreement on product acceptability. The analysis of the product effectiveness test using the Independent Sample T-Test. The results of the descriptive study show that aggressiveness is a problem that needs the counselor's attention, one of which is by implementing peace guidance based on the perspective of Markesot. The peace guidance based on the perspective of Markesot has high acceptability and effectively reduces student aggressiveness. This study's results should be material and consideration for further research to identify the compatibility of the characteristics of the Indonesian people with Markesot figures.
  • Student Problem Assessment (SPA) in the Covid-19 Condition in terms of 10 Sub Areas of Life Problems (10-ALP)

    Student problems in the Covid-19 condition are very complex and urgent in the needs of the Covid-19 pandemic and after Covid-19. School counsellors have the competence to identify through assessment. However, not all reviews can analyze students' problems comprehensively. This study focuses on assessing student problems that can diagnose the condition of students from the personal, social, academic, and career fields. The research method uses a mixed-method through qualitative data supported by quantitative data. The research targets were students, then tested the validity and reliability for students N=929. The results of data analysis describe ten students' problems from the personal, social, learning, and career fields with valid and reliable items. The results of item validity are 49 accurate statement items or corrected item-total correlation > 0.1161, while one thing is invalid with 0.936 reliability or very high criteria. School counsellors can use assessment of student problems in analyzing student problems and needs. The results of the evaluation can be used for guidance and counselling plans by school counsellors.
  • Increasing Guidance and Counseling Teacher Capacity in Disaster Preparedness through Psychosocial Training

    The Psychosocial Training was held in July 2021 and involved 17 Guidance and Counseling Teachers from 12 Muhammadiyah Junior High Schools in Yogyakarta City. The aims of this research are (1) to know the implementation of Psychosocial Support Services training, (2) Obstacles in the implementation of Psychosocial Support Services training, and (3) Knowing the benefits of Psychosocial Support Services training. This study is a piece of qualitative research, which aims to describe and analyses the social phenomenon of psychosocial training for guidance and counseling teacher in Junior High School in Yogyakarta City. Primary subjects in this study were 20 participants of psychosocial training and facilitator of training. Data collection was done by in-depth interview, observation, and documentation. The data analysis procedure in this research is (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) conclusion. Data validity is done by triangulation of source and method triangulation. The training is carried out in three stages: pre-training stage is conducting a preliminary survey to see conditions in the field and planning activities to be carried out, training stage is the implementation of Psychosocial training, and evaluation stage of the results that have been achieved by the training participants are carried out. Obstacles in implementing psychosocial training include: training cannot be carried out optimally because the training is carried out online, limited time for training, some teachers are not active in psychosocial training because the media at zoom meetings is very limited. The facilitator maximizes training with WhatsApp Groups and the google document application on assignment. increasing the knowledge of participants after attending the training by increasing the post-test scores. Cooperation of various parties with school residents is needed so that psychosocial preparedness can be applied to pre-disaster, emergency response, and post-disaster.
  • Development of an instrument of assertive communication scale based on Yogyakarta Cultural Value

    This research examines the difficulty pattern of assertive communication scale instrument items containing spiritual values. The research and development design applies ADDIE work procedures (Analysis, Design, Development or Production, Implementation or delivery and Evaluation). The participants of the item development and item difficulty test were 425 junior high school adolescents in Yogyakarta who were selected using stratified random sampling technique. The data analysis technique used the Rasch model. The findings show that the item difficulty pattern from the aspect of assertive communication contains cultural values ​​which consists of 20 items indicating that item number 6, which reads "I respond to the words/advice of my parents with harsh words because for me it is nonsense." with +1.57 logit indicates that this item is the most difficult for respondents to agree on in the cultural value-based assertive communication scale instrument that has been answered by the respondent. Meanwhile, item number 19, which reads “I respect religious differences among my friends or neighbours” is the item most respondents agree on.

  • Effectiveness of solution-focused brief counseling to reduce online aggression of student

    The problem of violence committed by adolescents is increasingly complex, one of which is the aggressive behavior of students. In fact, as the 4.0 industrial revolution emerged, the aggressive behavior of students grew, one of which was online aggression. One way counselors can do is to apply solution-focused brief counseling (SFBC) to reduce student online aggression behavior. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of SFBC to reduce student online aggression behavior. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of SFBC to reduce student aggression online behavior. The study design uses quasi-experimental with type nonequivalent control group design. The subjects of this study were students of vocational high school Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta, which had very high online aggression behavior. The data collection tool used to measure online aggression behavior is the scale of online aggression behavior. The data analysis technique used in this study was the independent t-test. The results of this study indicate that online aggression behavior can decrease significantly after being given an SFBC intervention. Students are able to develop a solution that can minimize the desire of students to behave in online aggression.
