Ahmed Al-qadhi, Moyaser Thanoon, Radhwan Al-Ajeli, Ibraheem Ahmed Zedan, Fouad Mohammed
Iraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2025
The study aims to compare effects of local application of liquid magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs) and advanced platelet rich fibrin (A-PRF) on healing of the severed superficial digital flexor tendon in dogs (SDFT). The study was conducted on Twenty-seven mature dogs. Their weights ranged between 25-30 kg. while their ages ranged from 18-24 months. The dogs were randomly divided in three groups equally. The first (control group) in which the complete cutting SDFT was sutured without the addition of any adjuvant. In the second group there was a suture of cutting SDFT with the addition of 3ml of Nano-magnesium oxide. In the third group there was a suture of cutting SDFT with the addition of 3ml of advanced platelet rich fibrin. In one group, animals were divided into three subgroups equally that were examined after 15, 30, 45 days of surgery. Evaluated the severity of lameness, adhesion, histopathological and immunohistochemical examination of the healed tendons were performed after 15,30,45 days of surgery in each group. in comparison to the control, the adhesion degree more than A-PRF and MgO-NPs. The results of histopathological examination of SDFT healing in first group reveled sever infiltration of mononuclear inflammatory cell, proliferation of tenocyte deposition of collagen bundle without orientation and angled toward axis of tendon and newly capillary while in second and third groups the result show slightly to moderate respectively. The result of immunohistochemical examination in the first group showed moderate positive collagen reaction, in second group with intense positive collagen reaction, while in third group very slight positive collagen reaction in all periods except in 45 days the third group show intense positive collagen reaction. Therefore, it could be concluded that the MgO-NPs and A-PRF are effective materials for enhancing SDFT healing in dogs but the MgO-NPs group better than the A-PRF group.

Ahmed Ali, osama Alhyani, Moyaser Thanoon
Egyptian Journal of Veterinary Science Egypt, 2025
This study aimed to evaluate clinically the anasthetic overdosage of ketamine in cats. 10 local adult cats from both sexes were used to conduct this study. High dose of ketamine (150 mg/kg) was administered intramuscularly in all cats. Measurement of heart rate and respiratory rate as well as checking of certain reflexes were performed at regular intervals for 6 hours. Sedation, analgesia and muscle relaxation were evaluated depending on certain scores. Critical levels or clinical signs of cyanosis were not observed following administration of this high dose of ketamine which was confirmed by the measured values. Deaths of the anesthetized cats were not reported due to ketamine overdosage. High extension of the recovery period was only the main noticed result of the increased dose level of ketamine without any improvement in the anesthetic effect of this drug. Excellent sedation, profound analgesia and moderated muscle relaxation were reported in almost all anesthetized cats. In conclusion, clinical signs of acute toxicity were not reported and severe misjudgments of the bodyweight resulting in high dose of ketamine or even accidental administration increased dose level would not result into fatal outcomes.

Journal of Applied Veterinary Sciences, 2023
Many types of bioactive materials are categorized as bone tissue substitutes for reconstruction and regeneration of bone defects, such as nano-hydroxyapatite. The objective of the present study was to radiologically evaluate the bone healing process in experimentally induced tibial defects in dogs treated with two different viscosity concentrations of nano-hydroxyapatite gel. Twelve adult, healthy Mongrel dogs were included. A critical size bone defect of 3–0.7 cm was induced surgically in the lateral border of the tibial bone of the right limb of all dogs enrolled in this study. The dogs were then categorized into two treatment groups: Group 1 (6 dogs): The defect was filled with prepared hydroxyapatite nanogel at a concentration of 33%, and Group 2 (6 dogs) hydroxyapatite nanogel at a concentration of 24% was used as a filling material. The healing process of the tibial defect and associated clinical and radiolographical findings were recorded in all studied groups at 30 and 60 days postoperatively. The results of the current study showed complete healing of the induced defect in the absence of any signs of pain or discomfort. Radiographically, there was an increase in radiographic density in the first group at 60 days. There is continuing healing in the late stage of the bone segment with the surrounding area and a crossing callus with cortical irregularities, denoting a chronic periosteal reaction and a good healing process. In the second group, the defect was completely filled with cortical thickening, which appears denser, denoting a periosteal reaction. In conclusion, using hydroxyapatite nanogel with high viscosity as a bone substitute contributed to progressing bone tissue regeneration with good callus formation and giving perfect mechanical support to defective bone. ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ

Iraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2022
This project evaluated the effects of nano magnesium oxide versus platelets rich fibrin on induced radial fracture bone healing. Eighteen males and non-pregnant females of adult local stray dogs, weighing 17.6±0.8 kg and aged 2.0±0.1 years, were used. These trials animals were randomly divided into three groups of equal numbers. In the first group, control group (C), a transverse radial fracture was induced then immobilized by external fixation as gypsum. In this group, the fracture line was not treated with any bioactive material. In the second group, platelets rich fibrin group (PRF), the fracture line was treated by adding platelets rich fibrin. In the third group, nano magnesium oxide (NMO), the fracture line was treated by adding a suspension of nano magnesium oxide. The radiographic results showed that the fractured bone healing was faster in the second group than in the first and third groups, while the third group was better than the first group. The concentration rates of serum calcium and alkaline phosphatase were increased in the weeks followed the surgical operation. Depending on the radiographic pictures and serial rates of alkaline phosphatase, the second PRF and the third NMO groups were the better-fractured bone healing than the first one. In conclusion, this study revealed that using each platelets rich fibrin and nano magnesium oxide enhanced and improved the healing of the induced radial fracture.

Iraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2022
The aim of this study was a histopathological evaluation of the effects of nano magnesium oxide and platelets-rich fibrin on induced radial fracture bone healing in local stray dogs. We used 18 adult animals weighing 17.5±0.6 kg and aged 2.0±0.1 years; these experimental animals were divided into three main equal groups. In the first group (Control), the fracture was left without treatment of any bioactive materials; in the second group (nano magnesium oxide), the fracture line was injected with 20µg of nano magnesium oxide, the third group (platelets rich fibrin) the fracture line was surrounded by platelet-rich fibrin. The bone specimens were taken from all experimental animals 6 and 10 weeks after the surgical operation. A Colorimetric method was used for measuring the alkaline phosphatase enzyme and calcium concentrations in all trial animals. The histopathological results at the 6th and 10th weeks showed that the best response was in the platelets-rich fibrin group, then the nano magnesium oxide group, and lastly, the control group according to the formation of fibrocartilaginous tissue, trabeculae, and woven bone. The concentration rates of alkaline phosphatase enzyme and calcium were increased in the weeks that followed the surgical operation. In conclusion of this study, platelets-rich fibrin and nano-magnesium oxide accelerated the healing of the radial fracture.

Iraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2019
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of platelets rich fibrin and bone marrow on distal radial fracture healing in local breed dogs. Twenty four adult animals (males and females), mean aged 2.6 ±0.15 years, and the mean body weight 24.58 ±1.07 kg were used. The experimental animals were randomly divided into three equal groups. First group (Control group), transverse fracture was induced in the distal portion of radial bone and immobilized by Plaster of Paris, the fracture line didn't treated with any material. Second group (platelets rich fibrin group), the fracture line was surrounded by the platelets rich fibrin. Third group (bone marrow group), the fracture line was surrounded by autologous bone marrow. The radiographic results confirmed that the fracture healing was faster and superior in third group compared with first and second groups. The hematological results showed an increasing in concentration rates of alkaline phosphatase enzyme and calcium at the weeks that follows surgical operation. Depending on the serial rates of alkaline phosphatase, the third group and the second group are the better fractured bone healing than the first group. In conclusion, the results revealed that, the using of bone marrow and platelets rich fibrin improved and enhanced the healing of distal radial fracture.
  • Effect of bone marrow and low power lasers on fracture healing with destruction of both periosteum and endosteum in rabbits
    S. M. Ibrahim, M. G. Thanoon
Iraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2010
Ten mature rabbits of local breed were used in this study; weighing between 1.5 to 1.75 kg and aged about 1–2 years. These animals were divided into two equal groups; in group A destruction of both periosteum and endosteum was done one centimeter from each side of mid-shaft femoral bone fracture, then sufficient amount of autogenously bone marrow was injected directly at the fracture site after immobilization by intramedullary pin. In group B a similar procedure was achieved as in group A, but in additional to that He-Ne infrared laser therapy was used for several sessions. The result of radiological findings indicated that, the fracture healing occurred within group B at fifteen weeks, whereas in group A the healing occurred at eighteen weeks after operation. The implantation of autologous bone marrow enhanced the fracture healing, whereas using of combinations of autologous bone marrow and He-Ne infrared laser therapy hastened the healing.
