Enhancing biogas production from lignocellulosic biomass: Challenges, innovations, and sustainability pathways Sumit Sharma, Pradeep Kumar Meena, Chitresh Nayak, Chaitanya Girish Burande, Anurag Shrivastava, Rishabh Chaturvedi Environmental Progress and Sustainable Energy, 2026 Anaerobic digestion (AD) is vital in achieving sustainable waste management and renewable energy goals. This review critically evaluates the recent advancements and bottlenecks in biogas technology, focusing on improving process efficiency, environmental performance, and integration within circular economy frameworks. The analysis reveals that synergistic pretreatment. Approaches—including combined thermal–alkaline and biological techniques—can enhance methane yield by 30%–60% for lignocellulosic and food waste substrates. The co‐digestion of organic wastes with microalgae improves process stability, nutrient recycling, and biogas productivity by up to 40%, while supporting carbon sequestration. Regarding upgrading, nanocellulose‐ and MOF‐based membranes offer higher methane purity (>98%) and reduced energy input compared to conventional systems. Despite these technological advancements, challenges persist due to inconsistent operational parameters, inadequate feedstock management, weak policy implementation, and limited public participation. The review emphasizes that standardized monitoring frameworks, decentralized biogas models, and integration with SDG‐driven policies are essential to realizing the full potential of AD systems. Overall, the review concludes that targeted innovation and policy synergy can make biogas technology a key enabler of SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
Impacts of flexible renewable hybrid system with electric vehicles considering economic reactive power management on microgrid voltage stability and operation Huan Xie, Ihab Omar, Husam Rajab, Rishabh Chaturvedi, Abdullah Abed Hussein, Narinderjit Singh Sawaran Singh, Jaber M. Asiri, Nimesh Raj, Tannmay Gupta, Ahmad Alizadeh Scientific Reports, 2025 This article delves into the eco-friendly operation of a smart microgrid, highlighting its ability to maintain voltage security through a flexible renewable hybrid system. The framework incorporates wind and bio-waste energy sources to produce electricity, while leveraging electric vehicles as mobile storage units and flexibility resources. The hybrid system is also capable of managing reactive power. The design focuses on two core Objectives: minimizing operational costs and bolstering voltage security in the grid. To ensure these goals are met, several critical constraints are addressed, including the AC optimal dispatch model, security limitations of the smart microgrid, management of hybrid resources and storage operations, and restrictions related to system flexibility. A single-objective optimization approach uses weighted functions alongside a fuzzy decision-making method to achieve a compromised solution. Stochastic programming is applied to accurately account for uncertainties linked to renewable energy production, load fluctuations, energy pricing, and electric vehicle integration. The research stands out for introducing a multi-objective energy scheduling approach that combines a flexible-renewable hybrid system with the adaptability of electric vehicles and the operational capabilities of bio-waste systems. Numerical simulations emphasize the effectiveness of this design in improving both the technical performance and economic feasibility of smart microgrids and hybrid systems. Noteworthy findings reveal that mobile storage units can fully meet the flexibility requirements of the hybrid system. In comparison with conventional load flow studies, this optimized system delivers enhancements in voltage stability, economic efficiency, and operational capacity by approximately 20%, 33%-65%, and 41%, respectively.
ADVANCEMENTS IN FIBRE-REINFORCED POLYMER LAMINATES: MECHANICAL PROPERTY REQUIREMENTS FOR MARINE APPLICATIONS Rishabh Chaturvedi, Jyoti Vimal, G.V.V. Satyanarayana, Aashim Dhawan, Deepti Sharma Transactions of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects Part A International Journal of Maritime Engineering, 2025 Fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates play a vital role in marine applications, thanks to their exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and long-lasting durability in challenging environments. This paper explores the progress made in FRP laminates, focusing on their mechanical characteristics, production methods, and effectiveness in marine environments. This study investigates the tensile, flexural, and compressive strength of FRP. This is vital for the retention of structural integrity in dynamic sea environments as well as the maintenance of fatigue and impact resistance. New manufacturing processes, including cryogenic drilling, vacuum-assisted resin transfer moulding (VARTM), and hybrid FRP-metal laminates, enhance mechanical performance and lower processing flaws. Evaluation of the material durability within saline and moist conditions emphasizes protective coatings and the insulation layer against galvanic corrosion. FRP laminates possess improved performance under marine conditions as compared to the conventional materials. This implies suitability for the manufacture of vessels, offshore structures, and underwater reinforcing. The following paper is a major contribution in reporting the complex evolution of FRP laminates to promote durability and high performance in marine engineering applications.
ENHANCING PROPERTIES OF FIBER-REINFORCED POLYMER COMPOSITE FOR MARINE APPLICATIONS Jyoti Vimal, Rishabh Chaturvedi, Subhav Singh, Deekshant Varshney, A Karthikeyan, N. Beemkumar Transactions of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects Part A International Journal of Maritime Engineering, 2025 The increasing demand of high strength and light weighted materials in marine applications offer opportunities to alternative fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP). The research aims at enhancing the properties of carbon-aramid fiber-reinforced polymer (CAFRP) including elastic properties at varying L/W ratio and under different load conditions. A multi-pronged methodology including simulation, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) validation, optimization using Genetic algorithm (GA) and various statistical analysis tools has been performed to provide optimized CAFRP. The study also investigates failure criteria analysis based on theory of failures. The study enlightens the analysis of optimized properties and their suitability for marine applications. It demonstrates the effectiveness of GA-driven optimization to achieve optimum properties for CAFRP. The study also discusses the potential of hybrid FRPs in long-term durability and different environmental conditions.
