Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in Mitigating Academic Procrastination and its Moderating Factors among nursing students , Manu Kohli, Navita Gupta, , Gaurav Kohli, , Prabhjot Saini, , Kanika Guleria, and Investigacion Y Educacion En Enfermeria, 2025 Objective. To assess the effect of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on academic procrastination and its moderating factors among nursing students. Methods. True experimental pre-test and post-test research design was adopted. The setting comprised of private nursing colleges of Punjab, India. A screening was done among 209 nursing students, 43 (20.57%) were procrastinators, which were assigned randomly to the intervention (n=19) and control (n=24) groups. The intervention was administered during six weeks, consisting of weekly one-hour modules that focused on the core components of ACT (Present Moment Contact, Defusion, Acceptance, Self as Context, Values, and: Commitment to Action). The effect of the intervention was measured after 6th week through the scales: (i) Procrastination assessment Scale, (ii) Acceptance and action questionnaire-II (AAQ-II) and (iii) Student time management scale (STMS). A session of ACT was scheduled for the control group following the post-test. Study has been registered under Clinical Trail Registry of India (REF/2022/12/061719). Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results. Post intervention assessment after 6 weeks revealed reduction in academic procrastination among the nursing students (mean difference -8.61, Standard error 0.35, p-value=0.01). Intervention also led to improvement in time management skills (mean difference 9.98, Standard error 0.32, p-value=0.001). Additionally, intervention results in improving psychological flexibility among the nursing students (mean difference -4.72, Standard error 0.49, p-value=0.02). Conclusion. The study found ACT can reduce academic procrastination, and in the clinical setting, can and improve the time management, psychological flexibility among nursing students.
Importance of Core Competencies Assessment Scales for Community Health Nurses in India Gaurav Kohli, Navita Gupta, Manu Kohli, Prabhjot Saini Ecs Transactions, 2022 The new age nursing profession is primarily based upon the efficient execution of the profession with skills and appropriate knowledge. The core competencies are essential to developing during and after the completion of formal education. The community nursing competencies are a bit more important as they enable the nurses to work independently in the field as a practitioner. The regular evaluation of competencies is direct to achieving the standard of health care services in the community setting. Method: To present this review researcher reviewed almost 70 articles from different online platforms, i.e. PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, were screened and the final 16 were reviewed. Conclusion: Community health nurses working in domiciliary care need immense exposure to develop core competencies in the practice field. A standardized guide for core competencies of community health nurses based upon the indigenous needs/programs of India helps to infuse competencies among community nurses. The evaluation scale will ensure the extent of core competencies development.
Comparison Of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) And Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) For Treatment of Academic Procrastination Manu Kohli, Navita Gupta, Prabhjot Saini, Gaurav Kohli Ecs Transactions, 2022 Mental health is an integral part of adolescent’s wellbeing. Procrastination of the academic tasks is found to be the cause of stress among the adolescents. Procrastination is an individual act of postponing or suspending the tasks until the last gasp or past the deadlines. Psychotherapies appears to be an effective treatment for academic procrastination among the adolescents. The present review compared the efficacy of ACT and CBT in reducing the academic procrastination among the adolescents. Methods: Thorough search of three databases (Pubmed, Google Scholar, and PsycINFO) from 2010-2021 was conducted using the keywords like CBT, ACT and academic procrastination. Results: Research support findings that psychological interventions both CBT and ACT are promising interventions for decreasing procrastination. ACT had better long-term effects than CBT on improving procrastinating behaviour.
