Herbal Drug Industry from Cultivation to Innovation and Global Impact, 2026
Intellectual property (IP) is a crucial aspect of herbal science research, providing a framework for protecting innovation and fostering advancements. Intellectual property rights (IPRs) are closely linked to bio-larceny and the infringement of IPR schemes in the western style. In this chapter, we review the present-day status of the art of IP management in herbal science and present strategies for developing an effective IP management plan. A review of existing literature underscores the diverse applications of patent search studies, highlighting the importance of strategic planning, the identification of retrieval techniques to mitigate unpredictability, and the adoption of search procedure designed to address intricacy and vagueness. In addition, we discuss strategies for fostering a culture of IP awareness in the realm of herbal sciences while contributing to the 246advancement of the field. The cases discussed provide insights into various approaches for utilizing the advantages of the commercialization of historical information and return to its original communities.

Herbal Drug Industry from Cultivation to Innovation and Global Impact, 2026
Many developed and developing countries have policies that support the widespread use of medicinal plants, frequently as nonprescription medicines. These herbal remedies, which are significant in both history and culture, are essential for maintaining health. Herbal remedies are becoming more and more common in alternative healthcare practices around the world, even in spite of the availability of contemporary pharmaceuticals. Protection of these treatments’ efficacy, safety, and quality has grown to be a major global concern. When creating comprehensive herbal monographs, pharmacognostical research plays a crucial role in guaranteeing the efficacy and safety of these medications. The scientific names, parts used, geographic distribution, and tests for authenticity and purity are only a few of the detailed details about the plants that are included in these monographs. They also comply with WHO criteria by providing information on active ingredients, dosage forms, therapeutic applications, pharmacology, and any interactions. Herbal monographs are incorporated into a number of international pharmacopeias, such as the United States Pharmacopeia, the European Pharmacopoeia, and the International Pharmacopoeia. Additionally, these monographs can be found in publications like books, journals, and databases. Additional resources on certain medicinal plants can be found from groups like the German Commission and the European Scientific Cooperative on Phytotherapy. Additional information on herbal products can be sourced from databases such as the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, NAPRALERT, and publications by Bhat, among others.
  • Mapping Novel Epigenetic Drug Delivery Systems with Artificial Intelligence
Gana Manjusha K, Chiranjeevi P, Aruna Kumari D
Epigenetic Drug Discovery Advancements Challenges and Applications in Precision Medicine, 2025
Epigenetic modifications, including DNA methylation, histone changes, and RNA-mediated mechanisms, are important regulators of gene expression that do not alter the genetic code. These mechanisms play a dual role in health and disease, offering new targets for therapy, especially in the treatment of cancer, neurological disorders, and metabolic diseases. However, most of the existing epigenetic drugs suffer from some drawbacks, such as low bioavailability, poor stability, and low specificity, which urge the development of innovative delivery systems. This chapter focuses on recent developments in epigenetic drug delivery systems, including nanoparticles, liposomes, dendrimers, and nanogels, which enhance stability, targeting, and the efficacy of therapeutic agents. It has also been introduced in the optimization processes of drug formulations and prediction tasks of drug–target interaction and treatments based on individual and epigenetic profiles. AI-integrated approaches will render the design of delivery vectors more efficient, enhance real-time monitoring, and support adaptive therapeutic regimens. While highly promising, such developments also give rise to unique ethical and regulatory concerns regarding data privacy, bias, and long-term implications of epigenetic changes. The first chapter illustrates how epigenetics can come together with AI-driven systems to revolutionize personalized medicine and touches on some of the complexities that result from integrating technologies into clinical practice.
  • Epigenetics Challenges and Prospects

Epigenetic Drug Discovery Advancements Challenges and Applications in Precision Medicine, 2025
Epigenetics is a new field that studies heritable changes in gene expression that are not accompanied by DNA sequence changes. It studies processes such as DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs that influence gene regulation and cellular function. These mechanisms give us a key to understanding developmental processes, the course of diseases, and environmental interactions. Research has shown that epigenetics both cause and prevent diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and autoimmune diseases. Epigenetics studies have also brought forward new diagnostic tools such as methylation-specific PCR and chromatin immunoprecipitation and therapeutic strategies aimed at DNA methylation and histone acetylation. Challenges to using epigenetic networks are their complexity, tissue-specific variability, and poor specificity of therapeutic interventions, all of which highlight the strong need for more powerful computational tools and targeted interventions. It also provides future directions for single-cell epigenomics, CRISPR epigenome editing, and understanding the effects of environmental factors such as diet and pollution on the epigenome. These transformative advances in precision medicine could open new avenues of treatment and better health outcomes for a range of diseases.

Objective: This study aims to assess the neuropharmacological properties of peels from specific fruits, namely Annona squamosa, Cucumis melo, Actinidia deliciosa, Malus pumila. Material and Method: Wistar albino rats (weighing 150 g), regardless of gender, were allocated into six groups for forced swim tests, locomotion assessments, and muscle coordination evaluations. Diazepam and imipramine were employed as reference standards. At doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg, all peel extracts showed a reduction in immobility time, improved rotarod performance, and a notable increase in locomotor activity. Result and Discussion: The efficacy ranking for immobility time was as follows PHF>APMP>APCM>APAS>APAD. In terms of skeletal muscle relaxation, the order of effectiveness was: PHF>APCM>APMP>APAD>APAS and the treatment groups' locomotor activity followed this sequence: PHF>APMP>APCM>APAD>APAS. All the selected peel extracts exhibited noteworthy effects on immobility, locomotor activity, and muscle relaxation. However, a more comprehensive investigation is required to elucidate the precise mechanisms underlying the antidepressant effects of the selected peel extracts and PHF.

    M. Arya Lakshmi, D. S.N.B.K Prasanth, K. Gana Manjusha, B. Ganga Rao
Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2021
Aim: The aim of the study was to examine the anti-arthritic function of methanol extract of Lasia spinosa (MELS) and chlorogenic acid (CA) in the rats of Freund’s complete adjuvant (FCA) mediated arthritis by in vivo and In silico studies. Materials and Methods: The MELS was subjected to acute oral toxicity in rats and tested against FCA induced arthritis in rats. Large-scale isolation and chromatographical analysis with spectral review verified that CA is responsible for the pharmacological effects reported. The efficacy of MELS and CA against CFA-induced arthritis was subsequently tested for hematological, biochemical, and in vivo anti-oxidant parameters in rats on the last day of the research. The interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α expressions in the paw tissue were determined by Western blotting technique. Ankle joint histopathological and radiological studies were also conducted. Results: MELS and CA dosage based on anti-arthritis, which was obvious in comparison with an arthritis control group with decreased paw volume, joint diameter, and body weight. MELS and CA showed significant anti-arthritic activity by rising RBC and Hb levels and decreasing WBC and platelet levels. The anti-arthritis function has also been verified by the altered biochemical and anti-oxidant parameters MELS (400 and 200 mg/kg) and CA (5, 10 mg/kg). The activity was further confirmed by histopathological radiological tests with in silico analysis. Conclusion: This study confirms the ethnomedicinal use of L. spinosa rhizomes in the treatment of arthritis. It also indicates the strong anti-arthritic effects of CA. Additional clinical trials are, however, required to show the effectiveness of CA in different immuno-inflammatory conditions.
