Cationic and anionic dyes in wastewater pose significant environmental risks due to their toxicity, persistence, and mobility. To address this issue, sugarcane bagasse (SB) and its biochar (SBB) were treated with ferrihydrite (Fh) to produce cost-effective and durable adsorbents for the simultaneous removal of methylene blue (MB, cationic) and methyl orange (MO, anionic). In single-dye systems, the ferrihydrite-biochar composite (2Fh-SBB) achieved peak Langmuir adsorption capacities of 141.75 mg g⁻¹ for MB and 138.25 mg g⁻¹ for MO, outperforming SB, SBB, Fh, and 2Fh-SB. The Freundlich model further suggested heterogeneous adsorption behavior compatible with the composite's mixed carbon-ferrihydrite surface. The kinetic data were well characterized by the pseudo-second-order model (R² = 0.97–0.99), suggesting the participation of surface interactions; yet, kinetics alone cannot differentiate between physisorption and chemisorption. Temperature-dependent thermodynamic analyses (ΔG°, ΔH°, ΔS°) are necessary for conclusive mechanistic validation. Statistical diagnostics validated the reliability of the isotherm and kinetic parameters. MB adsorption favored alkaline conditions, while MO adsorption was higher at acidic pH, reflecting electrostatic influences relative to surface charge and pHPZC. In binary systems, MB adsorption was enhanced by MO, indicating partial synergistic effects associated with charge heterogeneity and improved Fh dispersion. Characterization tests (BET, zeta potential, FTIR, SEM-EDS) suggested that MB interacted with both carbon and Fh domains via electrostatic and π-π interactions, while MO adsorption involves Fe-O surface interactions. The substantial and largely stable adsorption fractions highlight the effectiveness of ferrihydrite modification in pollutant stabilization. Overall, 2Fh-SBB demonstrates strong potential as a low-cost, robust adsorbent for multi-dye wastewater treatment while promoting the valorization of agricultural waste.
  • Exploring climate change and sustainability issues in Bangladesh through system dynamics

    Climate change poses existential dangers to sustainable development of Bangladesh with risks of erosion, a deltaic nation with unusual vulnerability in view of population density, agricultural economy, and low-lying terrain. So, the pressing need to address climate-related issues that pose serious risks to sustainability and jeopardize lives, ecosystems, and food security drive this research. While there is prior literature that specifically focuses on certain climate impacts, this study addresses the environmental degradation, socioeconomic vulnerability, and policy lag by system-dynamic causal model under mixed-method approach. The semi-structured interviews with policymakers and local inhabitants and stratified random household survey were used to collect data from climate-vulnerable coastal areas in the southeast region. The inferential statistics like, time series, regression and chi-square test were utilized to identify the impacts and climate change vulnerability. Furthermore, this study advises resilience planning and adaptation measures with lessons from the other South Asian coastal regions and other climate–vulnerable countries. Undoubtedly, these findings offer a replicable model for situating SDGs with localized adaptation to climate change, enabling policymakers to decrease transgenerational poverty while safeguarding ecosystems in terms of effectual strategies for a climate-resilient future in these deltaic regions.
  • Digitalization in Sustainable Transportation Operations: A Systematic Review of AI, IoT, and Blockchain Applications for Future Mobility

    Despite increasing interest in AI, IoT, and blockchain for sustainable transportation, existing reviews remain fragmented—focusing on single technologies, descriptive benefits, or narrow applications—without providing an integrated synthesis across domains. This study conducts a systematic literature review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and a bibliometric analysis of 102 peer-reviewed papers to provide the concurrent integrative synthesis of AI, IoT, and blockchain in enabling sustainable transport. Data were drawn from Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, Semantic Scholar, and Google Scholar, and analyzed using VOSviewer to identify research clusters, emerging themes, and knowledge gaps. The results reveal three thematic clusters: smart traffic systems for congestion management, sustainable logistics and supply chains, and data-driven urban governance. Across these clusters, AI is more mature in predictive modeling, IoT remains fragmented in interoperability, and blockchain is still at a pilot stage with governance and scalability issues. The analysis highlights synergies (e.g., AI–IoT integration for real-time optimization) and persistent challenges (e.g., standardization, data security). This review contributes a strategic research roadmap linking bibliometric hotspots with policy and practice implications. By explicitly identifying gaps in governance, interoperability, and cross-domain integration, the study offers actionable directions for both researchers and policymakers to accelerate digital transitions in transport.
  • Role of different organic amendments on Cd and Pb bioavailability, uptake, and growth by Ipomoea aquatica

    • Amendments shifted Cd and Pb from mobile to stable forms, reducing plant uptake. • Absorption of Cd and Pb in the plant reduced by 53-92 % and 32-67 %, respectively. • Chicken manure biochar showed maximum decrease in Cd and Pb bioavailability in soil. • Amendments increased soil pH and decreased BCF and TF thus enhancing plant growth. • Mobility of Cd was higher than Pb, showing higher risk to plants and humans. Heavy metal contamination in acid soil is a potential risk for crop growth and food security. Organic amendments can decrease metal toxicity and ameliorate soil; however, their comparative effectiveness has not been well defined. This experiment evaluated the effectiveness of four organic amendments, including sugarcane trash biochar, chicken manure biochar, used tea waste, and eggshell powder, in improving soil properties, reducing Cd and Pb bioavailability, and promoting the growth of Ipomoea aquatica (water spinach). A pot experiment was conducted using soil contaminated with Cd (18 mg kg -1 ), Pb (1125 mg kg -1 ), or both, with a 5 % amendment rate. Chicken manure biochar exhibited the best improvement on soil organic matter, cation exchange capacity, pore structure, specific surface, and essential nutrient contents (N, P, Fe), contributing favorable conditions for plant growth and mitigating metal mobility among all treatments. It decreased DTPA-extractable Cd and Pb by 62 % and 89 %, respectively, and increased metals’ conversions from labile to less labile forms. Its high porosity, functional groups, Fe amount, and alkalinity contributed to promoting its metal adsorption, co-precipitation, and complexation over other amendments. Consequently, shoot Cd and Pb uptakes were decreased by 92 % and 74 %, respectively, and significantly reduced bioconcentration and translocation factors were found. The shoot and root biomasses were increased up to 22- and 15-fold, respectively, due to toxicity alleviation and benefits derived from better nutrient availability. Other amendments also improved soil quality and reduced metal uptake but to a lesser extent. Overall, chicken manure biochar was the most effective and sustainable amendment to remediate metal-contaminated acidic soils.
  • Quantum Computing Applications in Supply Chain Information and Optimization: Future Scenarios and Opportunities

    Quantum computing is a groundbreaking innovation that can resolve complex supply chain problems that traditional computing techniques are unable to manage. Given a focus on information flow, optimization, and potential future applications, this study explores how supply chain management could utilize quantum computing. The study used a mixed-methods approach, including scenario modeling, case studies of prominent companies, and literature reviews. The study intends to evaluate the function of quantum computing in dynamic route optimization, investigate how it can enhance supply chain resilience, and examine how it could optimize the flow of information for decision-making processes. Findings demonstrate that quantum computing offers unprecedented computational power for scenario analysis and decision-making and operates exceptionally well in activities like dynamic route optimization, parcel packaging, and reorganization during disruptions. For instance, companies like DHL and FedEx utilize quantum systems to improve efficiency substantially. However, constraints like high implementation costs, cybersecurity weaknesses, and technological infancy prevent widespread acceptance. Further research should investigate hybrid solutions that integrate quantum and classical computing while addressing these obstacles. This paper concludes that although quantum computing has the potential to transform supply chains by improving information flow, resilience, and efficiency, its wider adoption will require overcoming current financial and technological challenges.
  • A Review of Transportation 5.0: Advancing Sustainable Mobility Through Intelligent Technology and Renewable Energy

    Transportation 5.0 is an advanced and sophisticated system combining technologies with a focus on human-centered design and inclusivity. Its various components integrate intelligent infrastructure, autonomous vehicles, shared mobility services, green energy solutions, and data-driven systems to create an efficient and sustainable transportation network to tackle modern urban challenges. However, this evolution of transportation is also intended to improve accessibility by creating environmentally benign substitutes for traditional fuel-based mobility solutions, even when addressing traffic management and control issues. Consequently, to promote synergy for sustainability, the diversified nature of the Transportation 5.0 components ought to be efficiently and effectively managed. Thus, this study aims to reveal the involvement of Transportation 5.0 core component prediction in the sustainable transportation system through a systematic literature review. This study also contemplates the causal model under system dynamics modeling in order to address sustainable solutions and the movement toward sustainability in the context of Transportation 5.0. From this review, in addition to the developed causal model, it is identified that every core component management method in the sustainable Transportation 5.0 system reduces environmental impact while increasing passenger convenience and the overall efficiency and accessibility of the transport network, with greater improvements for developing nations. As the variety of transportation options, including electric vehicles, is successfully integrated, this evolution will eventually enable shared mobility, green infrastructure, and multimodal transit options.
  • Effects of biochar produced from rice straw and oil cake on soil nutrients, growth, yield and nutrient content of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

    A pot experiment was conducted to assess the comparative effects of biochar and conventional inorganic NPK fertilizers on wheat growth and nutrient content as well as certain soil chemical and nutritional properties. Biochar produced from oil cake and rice straw were mixed with soils at rates of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5% (w/w) and inorganic NPK fertilizer was also mixed separately with soils at rates of 0, ¼, ½, ¾ and 1 of the recommended rate. Biochar increased the fresh weight and dry weight of wheat plant parts significantly. The root biomass and grain yield with oil cake biochar (OCB) were relatively higher than with rice straw biochar (RSB). Biochar application at a 4-5% rate produced maximum wheat root, straw and grain yield which were comparable to the recommended inorganic 1 NPK rate. The study revealed that oil cake biochar (OCB) was more effective in increasing soil organic carbon (OC), whereas rice straw biochar (RSB) was found to be more effective in raising soil pH, soil electrical conductivity (EC) and decreasing soil exchangeable acidity. A similar effect on soil cation exchange capacity (CEC) was also observed with both types of biochar. The soil available ammonium N (NH4 +-N), Olsen P and K content increased with increasing rates of both biochar and inorganic NPK in soils after the harvest of plants. Applying biochar at a rate of 5% resulted in the highest effect on the soil’s chemical and nutritional properties. Maximum N, P and K concentrations in wheat root, straw and grain were found at 4-5% biochar rates, which were significantly higher than inorganic NPK fertilizer rates.

    The transformation era of Industry 5.0 opens up exciting possibilities for the circular economy through minimizing waste, promoting resource efficiency, and maximizing the value of materials. However, the seamless integration of Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) optimize resource allocation, track product life cycle, and enhance waste management processes with real-time data collection and analysis. By embracing Industry 5.0, businesses implement circular principles such as on-demand production, circular design, and modular systems, enabling the creation of easily repairable, upgradable, and recyclable products. Owing to these possibilities, this chapter aims to systematically review the extensive collaboration of Industry 5.0 with the circular economy by a model extending direct linkage between production processes and information flow. The model also incorporates the current research trends in production process optimization concerning robots, IoT systems, AI, and information network infrastructure. Through leveraging advanced technologies and reshaping industrial processes, the pathways towards sustainable production, consumption, and resource utilization would enable precise decision-making, minimizing resource wastage and facilitating efficient material reuse, reduction, and recycling. By embracing this unique convergence, this chapter might create a prosperous future where economic growth goes hand in hand with environmental stewardship, fostering a circular economy that benefits both present and future generations.

    Robust risk management in supply chains is essential for mitigating uncertainties, safeguarding operations, and ensuring long-term sustainability in today’s volatile business landscape. Yet, even more responsive and efficient operation optimization and performance metrics, delivery time, order accuracy, inventory levels, and transportation costs have been given importance. However, an extensive apprehension of supply chain management (SCM) processes, disruptions, and volatilities is tied to the power of data and analytics. Traditional supply chain optimization, performance analytics, and risk management methods often rely on centralized systems and intermediaries, making them prone to inefficiencies, delays, and vulnerabilities. Thus, developing contemporary disruptive technologies should be prioritized to build a common platform for data exchange and analysis to revolutionize these areas. Therefore, this chapter reviews how one disruptive technology, blockchain technology (BT), affects optimization and risk management for better coordination and easier supply chain operations. Irrespective of the industry, this chapter entails a bibliometric analysis that considers citations and clusters of authors, specifically to proactively identify potential bottlenecks, anticipate customer needs, and optimize inventory management. Although blockchain possesses intrinsic security features that boost risk management by mitigating fraud, counterfeiting, and data breaches, it also ensures compliance and traceability across supply chain operations. Ultimately, supply chain operations are revolutionized through blockchain technology, which improves analytics, boosts risk management procedures, and maximizes efficiency. Practitioners can use this blockchain data to gain insight into supply chain management, spot trends, uncover anomalies, and make data-driven choices that can improve performance, reduce costs, and increase customer happiness. With the ever-increasing complexity of global supply chains, this chapter intends to create an optimistic situation and shift the paradigm towards blockchain to remain competitive and agile in an evolving market for organizations.
  • Zero Plastic Drive: A Comprehensive Review on Unveiling Innovative Sustainable Solutions for a Circular Plastics Economy

    Living in a society where plastic has become a necessity, the over-reliance on these materials is quite disturbing as they have social and economic effects, especially in waste disposal and resource management. Such issues have introduced the circular plastics economy (CPE), which aims to eliminate plastic waste by focusing on reducing, recycling, and reusing (3R) and designing biodegradable plastic products. Owing to these facts, a systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted to analyze the existing literature on circular economy principles and plastic waste management systems in terms of 3R initiatives. Also, this study showcases the CPE by investigating how it is possible to manage plastic within a circular economy instead of a linear system. Additionally, system dynamics modeling (SDM) was applied to examine the inter-relationships between key elements such as plastic production, waste generation, recycling rates, and regulatory actions, along with the cognizance phase of waste diversion and advanced sorting technology to minimize landfill dependency and environmental pollution initiatives, including producer responsibility programs and zero-landfill targets. This study accumulated that zero waste strategies, such as plastic circularity, national waste management, and high-quality recycling, have achieved recycling rates ranging from 30% to 81% across various countries, significantly reducing plastic waste and enhancing resource efficiency. However, the added strategies in countries that are related to policy-driven initiatives can prospectively be useful for increasing recycling capacity to eliminate plastic waste in landfills, promoting a circular economy and sustainable waste management practices. This study also involved the critical stakeholders of the CPE who will make the utilization of plastic waste a reality. Ultimately, this research contributes to the fast-growing knowledge base on plastic waste management by presenting an interdisciplinary framework based on model synthesis and mathematical modeling, which is crucial for decision-makers, industries, and researchers.
