Solar PV-Battery System Connected with the Power Grid: A Comparison of FLC and P&O MPPT Amit Bharti, Shubhranshu Kumar Tiwary 2025 IEEE 2nd International Conference on Green Industrial Electronics and Sustainable Technologies Giest 2025, 2025 Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms are necessary because solar-generated electricity is incredibly unpredictable. The traditional perturb and observe ($\mathrm{P} \& \mathrm{O}$) approach has issues with regional fluctuations near the highest power point. Fuzzy logic control is one of the well-established intelligent control strategies for enhancing nonlinear system performance. This research goal is to compare the performance of a grid-connected solar PV system using fuzzy logic control-based MPPT to that of traditional P&O-based MPPT. Several parts of the 5 kW grid-connected solar PV system are designed, especially looking at how the DC-DC converter is controlled using fuzzy logic-based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and Perturb and Observe (P&O). In order to evaluate how well the photovoltaic array maintains itself and how much the power produced and DC bus voltage fluctuate; the study also compares outcomes both with and without fuzzy MPPT control. The simulation findings show that the fuzzy logic-based MPPT system works better for solar PV systems that are linked to the grid.
Peak Load Management with Wheeling in a Gas Turbine Station under Availability Based Tariff Shubhranshu Kumar Tiwary 2021 International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Future Electric Transportation Sefet 2021, 2021 The more energy we save, the less energy we would need to produce. Engineers nowadays are employing more innovative practices to increase energy efficiency. As per the International Statistical Institute, with the Gross National Income of 2020$ per capita, in the year 2018, India is still a developing country. And for the rapidly developing nations with a large population, like China and India, effective utilization of pre-existing resources is of utmost importance. The industrial sector as well the irrigation and farming populace, which are the highest consumers of electricity, need to optimize their energy consumption with adept implementation of methods such as power wheeling and cogeneration. In this paper, a case-study of a Gas Turbine Station at Damodar Valley Corporation, Maithon was undertaken with stress on wheeling of power. Cogeneration has also been studied together with the plan of Availability Based Tariff (ABT) to improve grid regulations and increase the power injected in to the grid. The issue has been simulated with the help of Genetic Algorithm Optimization Toolbox (GAOT) toolbox of MATLAB-R2016a.
Multi-dimensional ANN Application for Active Power Flow State Classification on a Utility System Shubhranshu Kumar Tiwary, Jagadish Pal, Chandan Kumar Chanda 2020 IEEE Calcutta Conference Calcon 2020 Proceedings, 2020 A multi-dimensional ANN has been applied to identify the states of a power network in real-time. Large power systems have multiple transmission lines and crucial parameters on each line to be monitored in real-time which is very complicated, considering the number of parameters to be monitored on each line. After any contingency the power system could transit from normal state to the emergency state within a matter of seconds. These transitions of states could be unprecedented or unexpected at times, and in such a scenario, deciding which lines should be highly ranked in the new steady state, for operator decisions, can be very complicated at times. In this paper, extensive load flow studies have been studied, considering N-1 contingencies. Then for each scenario the power flow on the lines remaining in service have been recorded. Using these recorded data, the power system operation has been classified in the 5 different states, namely, normal, alert, emergency, extreme emergency and restorative states. These data are then used to train a multi-dimensional feed-forward neural network to identify the states in real-time in Software-InLoop (SIL). This paper proposes a multi-dimensional neural network with as many numbers of input nodes as the number of lines and 5 output nodes for the 5 state classifications. This type of ANN could help the Power System Engineer (PSE) to take crucial decisions in the event of severe contingencies in the power network.
