Controlled Electric Vehicle Charging for Optimized Operation of Power Distribution Systems Illia Diahovchenko, Mykhailo Petrovskyi, Bohdan Nesterenko, Lubov Pertichenko, Anna Mutule International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University Rtucon, 2025 The integration of electric vehicles into power distribution systems is increasing worldwide, driven by government support and sustainability goals. This study examines the performance of a distribution network with detail-modeled residential loads under varying penetration of electric vehicles and evaluates their impact on peak demand, voltage deviation, phase unbalance, and power losses. The findings show that uncontrolled charging significantly increases evening peak load and causes voltage drops exceeding the $\pm 10 \%$ limit at high penetration levels, while controlled charging effectively mitigates these issues. The results could serve as a basis for distribution system operators to apply controlled charging as a cost-effective measure to manage the growing demand from electric vehicles without extensive grid reinforcements.
Modeling of characteristics of distance relay protection of high-voltage power lines M.V. Petrovskyi, S.M. Lebedka, S.A. Petrovska, S.O. Ivanov 2019 IEEE 2nd Ukraine Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering Ukrcon 2019 Proceedings, 2019 The simulation of characteristics of the directional distance protection of high-voltage power lines is realized in the PSCAD/EMTDC software complex. The comparison of the characteristics of the distance protection with the circular and polygonal tripping characteristics is conducted by means of numerical simulation. The algorithm of the fault detector is developed. Such a fault detector prevents false tripping during oscillations of the power system and asynchronous motion of generators by means of controlling the vector increase of the negative sequence currents.
Modeling of diffraction radiation processes on periodic metal-dielectric structures in millimeter wavelength range O. Rybalko, V. Zhurba, Mykhaylo Petrovskyi, I. Rybalko, I. Buriak, G. Vorobyov Optica Applicata, 2018 A general approach to experimental modeling of Cherenkov and diffraction radiation in vacuum electron devices employing periodic metal-dielectric structures is presented. The potential benefits and drawbacks of this approach to the design of microwave devices are discussed. The approach is based on resemblance of electromagnetic properties between the modulated electron beam and the surface wave in a dielectric waveguide. A dedicated millimeter-wave experimental setup is developed and constructed.
Discrete models of the electric grid elements, obtained with using the second-order formula of implicit gear method S. M. Lebedka, M. V. Petrovskyi, Yu. N. Veprik 2017 IEEE 1st Ukraine Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering Ukrcon 2017 Proceedings, 2017 A complete description of the electrical network elements models obtained with regard to their longitudinal, transverse and phase-to-phase parameters. Differential equations of transient processes are characterized by a large spread of time constants. The implicit Gear method of the second order is applied to the numerical solution of such “stiff” equations. The implicit Gear method is applied to three-phase networks, i.e. not for two-pole elements, but for three-phase multipoles. The elimination of internal nodes in discrete models makes it possible to present model elements in a unified form, to reduce the dimensionality of the equivalent circuit the entire electrical network. In the work discrete mathematical models of the electric network elements are obtained: power transmission lines, power two-winding transformers. The reliability of the results obtained by the developed mathematical model is confirmed by the conducted experiments testing on real objects.
A device for experimental research on wave electromagnetic processes in multiply connected quasi-optical systems with periodic inhomogeneities G. S. Vorobjov, M. V. Petrovskyi, A. I. Ruban, V. S. Shubnikov, O. V. Prokopchuk Instruments and Experimental Techniques, 2017 The results of the development of a universal experimental device and the general methodology for modeling wave electromagnetic processes in multiply connected quasi-optical resonance systems, which contain periodic inhomogeneities of various modifications, at which surface waves of a dielectric waveguide are transformed into bulk electromagnetic wave, are presented. The optimal modeling modes and the key parameters of the investigated electrodynamic systems are selected. The block diagram of the experimental device, which is implemented in the wavelength range λ = 4–8 mm, is described. A general methodology for modeling the wave electromagnetic phenomena in resonance and wave-guiding multiply connected quasioptical systems is outlined for the first time by the authors.

Specific features of electrodynamic characteristics for double-row periodic systems based on diffraction bar gratings G. S. Vorobyov, M. V. Petrovskyi, A. I. Ruban, V. S. Shubnikov, O. V. Prokopchuk 9th International Kharkiv Symposium on Physics and Engineering of Microwaves Millimeter and Submillimeter Waves Msmw 2016, 2016 Electrodynamic characteristics of double-row periodic systems which are formed by metal bar gratings of rectangular cross-section under their excitation by dielectric waveguide disposed along their longitudinal axis are described. The possibility of effective adjustment of the power level of emitted harmonics and of oscillation selection by changing the longitudinal and angular coordinates of a double-row periodic structure is presented.
