• Tribological assessment of CuZn40Pb3 alloy under vacuum and ambient conditions: Influence of contact stress on wear mechanisms
Vijayanandh Raja, P. Kumaravel, Bhaskara Rao, S. Kaliappan, Beena Stanislaus Arputharaj
Proceedings of SPIE the International Society for Optical Engineering, 2025
Copper-based alloys, especially CuZn40Pb3, are widely used in bearings due to their favorable tribological properties in ambient environments. However, their performance under vacuum common in aerospace applications— remains underexplored. This study evaluates the friction and wear characteristics of CuZn40Pb3 copper alloy under varying pressures and contact stresses using a pin-on-disc setup. Experiments were conducted in both atmospheric and vacuum environments (4 × 10⁻³ mbar and 7 × 10⁻⁶ mbar) with applied contact pressures of 0.2, 1.5, and 2.0 MPa at a constant sliding velocity of 1 m/s. Surface and subsurface wear morphologies were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to identify prevailing wear mechanisms and debris characteristics. Results indicate that adhesive wear dominates in both environments, with reduced wear rates observed under vacuum conditions. As contact stress increased, the wear rate significantly rose in ambient air, but only marginally under high vacuum. Plastic deformation and microcrack formation were notably higher in air, while the vacuum-exposed samples showed smoother wear surfaces and smaller debris particles. The findings demonstrate that CuZn40Pb3 exhibits enhanced wear resistance under vacuum, attributed to limited oxidation and reduced adhesive interactions. These results highlight the alloy’s potential as a reliable sliding component in aerospace systems exposed to low-pressure environments. Additionally, the study reveals how increased contact stress under different atmospheric conditions affects friction behavior and material degradation, providing insights for optimized design of tribo-elements in varying operational settings.

Telehealth and Medicine Today, 2025
The rapid expansion of telemedicine, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has transformed healthcare delivery by enabling remote consultation, monitoring, and diagnostics. However, existing telemedicine systems often suffer from fragmented architectures, limited interoperability, and inadequate alignment with regulatory and operational requirements. This paper proposes a comprehensive architectural framework for telemedicine systems that integrates key technological components, stakeholder roles, and implementation considerations into a unified model. Through a systematic review and comparative analysis of established frameworks including outcome-oriented models, semantic healthcare standards, and emerging technology-driven architectures critical gaps were identified in current telemedicine design approaches. The proposed framework delineates modular layers encompassing user interfaces, communication protocols, service components (e.g., electronic health records and AI engines), data management, integration with third-party systems, and governance mechanisms to ensure privacy and compliance. Additionally, the framework explicitly defines the roles and responsibilities of patients, healthcare providers, system administrators, institutions, and regulatory bodies to facilitate coordinated operation and oversight. Implementation challenges such as data security, infrastructure limitations in rural areas, interoperability across diverse EHR systems, scalability, user training, and deployment costs are thoroughly discussed. This work offers a foundational reference model to guide researchers, developers, and policymakers in advancing telemedicine platforms that are scalable, secure, and interoperable. Future efforts will focus on validating the framework through simulation, prototype development, and pilot studies to enhance practical adoption and impact.
• Optimization of Oxygen Enrichment in a CI Engine using Tallow Oil Biodiesel: A Response Surface Methodology Approach
Global Nest Journal, 2025
<p>The growing need for sustainable energy solutions has driven significant interest in biodiesel as a suitable replacement for fossil fuels. This research aims to characterize the performance parameters and emission standards of a single-cylinder CI engine with the combined effect of oxygen enrichment and a biodiesel blend. Tallow oil derived from animal fats is used as biodiesel because of its renewable properties, cost-effectiveness, and green energy applications. The response surface methodology (RSM) optimizes engine parameters for enhanced efficiency and reduced emissions. Oxygen enrichment is done at various oxygen concentrations of 21-29%, and the tallow oil biodiesel blend of B5 to B20 is used. The central composite (CC) design was used to design experimentation and enable the development of regression models that predict engine responses. Performance factors such as specific fuel consumption (SFC), brake power (BP), brake thermal efficiency (BTE), and emission characteristics such as carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbon (HC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are the factors analyzed. The analysis found that 25% oxygen enrichment with a B20 biodiesel blend and a 75% engine load condition provides a desirability of 0.719, and the desirable parameters obtained are 0.3 kg/kWh of SFC, brake power of 5 kW, and the brake thermal Efficiency as 33%.&nbsp; When we come to emissions, it is found that the CO emission of 0.67%, the HC emission of 36 ppm, the CO2 emission of 8.8%, and the NOx emission of 704 ppm. This result shows the optimum condition for the operation of the diesel engine.</p>

• Effect of Oxygen Enrichment in the Emission Characteristics of Yttria Stabilized Zirconia Coated Diesel Engine with Alumina Nanoparticle Additives
P. Kumaravel, G. Bharathiraja, P. Chandramohan, S. Mohan
Journal of Environmental Nanotechnology, 2025
This work aims to provide a proper solution for the global warming caused by the emission of IC engines. To cope with the emission standard of current emission norms BS-VI, it is necessary to reduce engine emissions at a considerable level. Oxygen enrichment and alumina nanoparticle additives minimize engine emissions such as hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and smoke. For oxygen enrichment, Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) methods are used. Oxygen enrichment is done at various oxygen concentrations of 21-29%. Uniform distribution of additives with fuel is done through an ultrasonicator. Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) thermal barrier coating controls the increase in engine temperature due to oxygen enrichment and avoids detonation. It was also found that the increase in oxygen concentration from 21% to 25% led to a rise in engine performance and control emissions such as hydrocarbons for about 10-15 ppm and carbon monoxide by 40%. It was also found that nitrogen oxide emission is maintained similarly to that of the diesel engine with the effect of alumina nanoparticle addition. It was also found that increasing the oxygen concentration reduces the OH concentration due to the lack of H atoms.

The micro holes produced using electrochemical micro machining (ECMM) process emphasis the accuracy and surface finish of micro hole due to its nature of machining. Hence, this paper attempt with different salt free electrolytes and its results are compared with normal electrolyte. The electrolyte such as sodium nitrate mixed electrolyte (SONE), copper mixed electrolyte (CUME), sulfuric acid mixed electrolyte (SFAE) and mixer of these entire materials in equal ratio considered as composite electrolyte (COME) are used for experiments. The optimization techniques such as Weighted Aggregated Sum Product Assessment (WASPAS) and Multi-Objective Optimization on the basis of Ratio Analysis (MOORA) are used to determine the best machining combination. The results obtained with experiments noted that maximum MRR, i.e., 1.8887 µm/s is obtained in COME with the parameter combination of 7 V machining voltage, 90% duty cycle and 38°C electrolyte temperature which is 98.23% higher than the SONE. Furthermore, field emission scanning electron micro scope (FESEM) image analysis and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) are carried out on the micro holes to know the clarity over the effect of electrolyte on surface quality of micro hole.

Micro-Electrochemical discharge machining (μECDM) is a subjective choice in delicate micro machining operations, particularly in Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) industries for fabricating the microscale devices. Dielectric characteristic of electrolyte is a predominant parameter determining the performance of μECDM. Prevention of surface cracks, heat-affected zone, and surface irregularities on the machined specimen are research challenges that striving to find innovative experimental designs. This research adopts a new experimental setup where Nitrogen gas is introduced in the gap between the tool electrode and workpiece. The experiments were conducted using plain aqueous NaOH and Nitrogen gas assisted aqueous NaOH electrolytes in μECDM of Austenitic stainless steel 316L (SS 316L). Voltage, duty cycle, electrolyte concentration, and Nitrogen gas flow rate were varied to investigate the responses of the machining process namely Material removal rate (MRR) and Tool wear rate (TWR). The dielectric characteristic of the generated gas film has improved the current density across the gap and consequently enhanced the heat transformation from the spark through the discharge and hydrodynamic regimes to the workpiece effectively. Nitrogen gas assisted μECDM has produced MRR of 2.6 mg/min and TWR of 0.8 mg/min at 105V, 70 duty cycle, 15.708 wt% of NaOH electrolyte and 3 lit/min of Nitrogen gas flow. SEM and EDX results have evidenced the minimum surface irregularities which indicates the uniform metal removal on the machined components. The results of the confirmatory experiment reveal that there is about 10% of increase in MRR and 21% of decrease in TWR are achieved from Nitrogen gas assisted machining, compared to plain NaOH electrolyte machining.
