Cyber-Physical-Digital Twin Application for Bus Fault Protection Pasela Ramtej, K Shanti Swarup 5th IEEE International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Future Electric Transportation Sefet 2025, 2025 This paper introduces a novel Cyber-Physical Digital Twin (CPDT) framework integrating low-cost Arduino hardware with MATLAB/Simulink for real-time fault detection, protection, and visualization in power systems. It uses a MATLAB/Simulink-based IEEE 3-bus model connected to Arduino via bidirectional USB communication for detecting and isolating various fault types, including single line-to-ground (SLG), line-to-line (LL), double line-to-ground (LLG), three-phase (LLL), and three-phase-to-ground (LLLG) faults, using instantaneous overcurrent relays. A distinctive feature of this framework is its dual-mode monitoring system, which combines a real-time Simulink dashboard with Arduino-controlled LED indicators, enhancing operator situational awareness. Experimental results demonstrate a closed-loop synchronization latency of 20.55 to 24.4 milliseconds (ms), validating the framework’s effectiveness for real-time applications. Unlike existing Digital Twin implementations, which are often simulation-centric, this CPDT laboratory prototype is tightly coupled with hardware and is designed to be cost-effective, modular, and scalable. Future research will focus on incorporating standardized communication protocols and advanced techniques for predictive analytics, with the aim of developing a resilient and self-adaptive power system infrastructure.
Swarm-Based EV Fleet with Grid-Aware Charging and Traffic-Adaptive Routing in Urban Networks Greeshma Potnuru, K. S. Swarup International Conference on Power Systems Icps, 2025 This paper presents a decentralized electric vehicle (EV) fleet simulation framework designed for traffic-and grid-aware logistics, with an architecture designed to enhance resilience, improve fault tolerance, and reduce energy consumption. Built using a hybrid MATLAB–Python environment, each EV agent performs an autonomous state of charge (SOC)-aware routing, real-time grid-synchronized charging, and failure-triggered task reassignment based on local conditions. In contrast to centralized models like FleetPy and earlier multi-agent simulators, our framework combines traffic light feedback, hashed audit trails, and lightweight Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT)-based coordination. Evaluated over a campus-scale road network of IIT Madras, our method achieves a 27% reduction in energy cost and achieves over 4× faster task recovery (2.8 s vs. 12.3 s) compared to a round-robin baseline. The hashed audit ledger supports decision traceability, while the digital twin dashboard allows exploratory testing under simulated grid stress scenarios. Preliminary results suggest that communication and computation overheads scale linearly with fleet size, indicating the potential for larger urban deployments. By bridging classical logistics methods with real-time grid feedback and swarm coordination, this framework provides a basis for developing scalable and resilient EV fleets that are aware of the grid constraints that align with future smart city needs.
Effective Graph Resistance Based Vulnerability Assessment Framework for Cyber Resilient CPPS Jigyasa Singhai, K Shanti Swarup International Conference on Power Systems Icps, 2025 Cyber-Physical Power Systems (CPPS) integrate traditional power infrastructure with information technology, creating new opportunities for smarter and more adaptive grid operation. At the same time, this interconnection increases the system’s exposure to cyber risks. To address this challenge, we present a graph-theoretic framework that uses Effective Graph Resistance (EGR) to identify structurally vulnerable elements in the cyber layer of CPPS. Unlike conventional centrality measures, EGR captures the overall connectivity and redundancy of the network, making it well-suited for resilience assessment. The developed approach is applied to standard IEEE 9-bus (WSCC 9-bus), 14-bus, and 39-bus systems. The results show that the proposed methodology identifies both vulnerable nodes and links whose removal significantly increases the network’s EGR, hence identified as critical elements in systems. Protecting and prioritising these components can significantly enhance system resilience.
Smart Grid Predictive Analytics Fault Management using Generative Adversarial Networks Monisha M, K. Shanti Swarup 5th IEEE International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Future Electric Transportation Sefet 2025, 2025 In the realm of smart grid systems, predictive analysis plays an essential role in enhancing reliability, efficiency, and security. This paper explores the application of Generative AI algorithms such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) for predictive fault analysis in a 9-bus IEEE power system. Our approach includes comprehensive data collection, data preprocessing, and integration of GANs using Python and MATLAB-based simulations. The methodology detects potential faults in real-time and predicts their occurrence, enabling preemptive measures to mitigate faults in the power system. The findings indicate the GANs can significantly enhance the accuracy and reliability of fault prediction models. The study provides detailed insights into dataset construction, cleaning procedures, software integration, and fault prediction. The paper provides detailed insights into dataset construction, software integration, and fault prediction examples, making a significant contribution to practical smart grid fault management.
Market Clearing Price Uncertainties in Double Auction based Peer to Peer Energy Trading Kashfia Rahman Oyshei, Shama Naz Islam, Md Enamul Hauque, Shanti Swarup K Conference Record IAS Annual Meeting IEEE Industry Applications Society, 2025 Peer-To-peer (P2P) energy trading has emerged as an innovative alternative to centralized energy system. However, the variability in participants’ bidding patterns introduces uncertainty in the Market Clearing Prices (MCPs) within P2P markets. To address this issue, the study investigates various market clearing mechanisms, including Average, Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG), Trade Reduction (TR), and McAfee, in a double auction based P2P market using real-world data from the Ausgrid Dataset. The impact of the bidding and asking price distributions on the uncertainty in MCP are analyzed mathematically and the relative performances across different mechanisms are investigated. A numerical simulation is performed to evaluate the MCPs for two sets of users- 30 prosumers and 127 prosumers over an entire year. Simulation results indicate that VCG mechanism exhibit the highest variance in MCP for buyers (38.47 and 36.78 for L = 30 and L = 127, respectively) whereas average mechanism has the least variance in MCP (21.06 and 20.98 for L = 30 and L = 127, respectively). The insights obtained from this analysis will help design new algorithms that can manage the impact of uncertainties more effectively.
