A label-free fluorescent probe for deferiprone quantification in exhaled breath condensate utilizing UiO-66 MOF/ferric ions system Nima Sheikh Abdollahzadeh Mamaghani, Zahra Karimzadeh, Maryam Khoubnasabjafari, Vahid Jouyban-Gharamaleki, Elaheh Rahimpour, Abolghasem Jouyban Scientific Reports, 2026 This study developed a simple and label-free fluorescent probe for deferiprone quantification in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) samples. For that, UiO-66, synthesized in a one-step process with the solvothermal method, along with ferric ions, provided a selective system for deferiprone detection. Deferiprone formed a complex with ferric ions, and the resulting complex quenched the fluorescence intensity of UiO-66 through an inner filter effect process. The probe demonstrated good sensitivity, with a detection limit of 0.005 mg.L − 1 and a linear range of 0.016-1.0 mg.L − 1 , and performed reliably in the analysis of deferiprone in EBC samples of the patients.
Development of a metal-organic framework-based nanosensor for determination of cyclosporine in plasma samples Reza Moharami, Zahra Karimzadeh, Zahra Golsanamlu, Afshin Gharakhani, Elaheh Rahimpour, Abolghasem Jouyban BMC Chemistry, 2025 According to the narrow therapeutic range and multiple adverse effects of cyclosporine and the need for its therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), in this study, an efficient zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 metal-organic framework (ZIF-8 MOF) based nanoprobe was designed for simple, rapid and high sensitive its quantification in plasma samples. After the successful synthesis of the ZIF-8 MOF, under the optimum condition, the fluorescence emission of ZIF-8 MOF, measured at an excitation wavelength of 370 nm and an emission wavelength of 417 nm, was enhanced with increasing cyclosporine concentration, due to the specific interactions between cyclosporine and the nanoprobe, including hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic effects. The nanoprobe showed a linear correlation between the analytical response and cyclosporine concentration in the concentration range of 0.01–1.0 µg mL− 1, with a detection limit of 0.003 µg mL− 1. Acceptable precision was achieved, evidenced by intra-day and inter-day relative standard deviations of 0.4% and 0.5%, respectively. Recovery between 97.1% and 102.1% in plasma samples indicated the method’s reliability in practical applications.
Development of an optical probe based on zinc nitride quantum dots for methotrexate determination in biological samples Zahra Latifpour, Zahra Karimzadeh, Maryam Khoubnasabjafari, Elaheh Rahimpour, Abolghasem Jouyban Physica Scripta, 2025 In this work, a fluorescent nanoprobe has been developed and validated using zinc nitride quantum dots for the sensitive determination of methotrexate (MTX) in human plasma samples. This platform represents the first report of zinc nitride QDs used for MTX sensing, offering an efficient alternative to conventional QDs such as CdTe or ZnO. Given MTX’s narrow therapeutic window and potential toxicity, its accurate monitoring in plasma is clinically essential; however, current analytical methods are often time-consuming and require extensive sample preparation. Zinc nitride QDs were formed by a hydrothermal method involving the reaction of zinc nitrate hexahydrate with ammonia solution. Its morphology and characterization were examined using energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. The nanoprobes exhibited a spherical morphology with an average size of <5 nm. The presence of nitrogen and zinc atoms in the structure of zinc nitride QDs via EDX analysis confirmed the successful synthesis of the nanoprobe. The fluorescence intensity of the developed probe was diminished in the presence of MTX, likely through the electrostatic interactions of carboxyl and amine groups in MTX with the positively charged zinc nitride QDs surface, according to zeta potential measurements. A linear response was observed over the concentration range of 0.02–2.4 μg.ml−1 with a detection limit of 0.003 μg.ml−1. The nanoprobe exhibited relative intra-day and inter-day standard deviations of 1.4% and 2.3% (n = 5) for MTX measurements, respectively. Recovery studies in spiked human plasma samples yielded results ranging from 97.0% to 108.0%, confirming the nanoprobe’s accuracy and applicability for real sample analysis. These results indicate the strong potential of zinc nitride QDs as a reliable fluorescent platform for MTX monitoring in clinical settings.
Recent advances on oxidation of alcohols over various types of materials as effective catalysts: An overview Zahra Shariatinia, Zahra Karimzadeh Coordination Chemistry Reviews, 2025 Alcohols belong to a family of priceless chemicals that are employed as raw materials for the production of several key intermediates in crucial industrial processes. The production of value-added compounds relies on oxidation , a critical step in organic synthesis. Oxidation of alcohols is very vital for production of a range of ketones , aldehydes, and acids needed to obtain plastics, detergents, paints, cosmetics, food additives , and medication intermediates industrially. A notable instance is benzyl alcohol oxidation to commercially essential substrates such as benzaldehyde that is a very important reaction because benzaldehyde is commonly used in textiles, agricultural, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries . It is noteworthy that the catalytic oxidation of alcohols can be regarded as an environmentally benign process because it avoids using toxic oxidants or high temperatures and instead it uses inexpensive sustainable oxidants like molecular oxygen . This work seeks to provide a review on recent investigations performed on oxidation of alcohols catalyzed by several types of catalyst materials such as inorganic metal complexes , metal organic frameworks (MOFs), zeolites , perovskites , spinels, metal oxides , metals, carbonaceous compounds, g-C 3 N 4 composites, salts, and organic materials. Furthermore, characterization as well as catalytic tests are summarized to allow comparisons of catalysts performances, including reaction rate, product selectivity, conversion, and other factors. In fact, this study presents characteristics that affect selectivity, conversion, activity, reusability, and stability of catalysts. Besides, the critical underlying mechanisms behind the oxidation of alcohols are investigated in order to realize which oxidizing species are formed in practical applications of the processes. For performance optimization, effects of factors and reaction circumstances including temperature, solvents, catalyst dose, and oxidant are studied. Therefore, this review provides an overview of the underlying knowledge about employed catalysts indicating oxidation processes of alcohols can be carried out in various solvents employing diverse catalysts. • Applications of various classes of catalysts in oxidation of alcohols were reviewed. • Inorganic metal complexes , MOFs, zeolites, perovskites , and spinels were investigated. • Metal oxides, metals, carbon materials, g-C 3 N 4 , salts, and organic catalysts were studied. • Activity, conversion, selectivity, stability, and reusability of catalysts were overviewed. • Important principal mechanisms behind oxidation processes of alcohols were explored.
