Nature Environment and Pollution Technology, 2026
Solar-driven energy systems have made a significant contribution to accomplishing global sustainability goals and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollutant levels. The increase in the development of multigeneration systems is predominantly significant because these systems efficiently address the growing and diverse demands for energy. Simultaneously, hydrogen has emerged as a promising alternative fuel, garnering considerable attention for its potential to replace conventional energy sources. In addition to hydrogen, other distinctive outputs, such as power, heating, cooling, domestic hot water, and freshwater demands, can be met using this technology. As solar energy is used extensively for electricity and heat generation, photovoltaic–thermal (PVT) systems are emerging as highly reliable and capable approaches for sustainable energy solutions. This study emphasizes the inclusion of hydrogen production methods into polygeneration systems. Recent progress in concentrated photovoltaic-thermal and photovoltaic-thermal technologies, focusing on improvements in system performance. This study concludes that different system configurations and the incorporation of new technologies have significantly optimized PVT designs. Looking ahead, PVT systems offer a promising route for clean energy production. The integration of PVT and combined cooling, heat, and power (CCHP) technologies marks a transformative step toward achieving net-zero energy buildings and decarbonized energy systems, making them a crucial element in the global transition to clean and efficient energy production. Further progress in cost competitiveness could drive broader adoption. Additionally, it presents the growing demand to explore the potential of green hydrogen as an energy source and energy carrier. The study concludes that concentrated photovoltaic–thermal (CPVT) systems demonstrate outstanding performance in solar-based multigeneration applications, achieving energy efficiency as high as 78.93% and exergy efficiency of up to 65%. These high values underscore the capability of CPVT technology to effectively harness both electrical and thermal energy, making it highly suitable for integrated systems targeting hydrogen production, heating, and cooling.

Energy systems that rely on non-renewable sources like fossil fuels are contributing to climate change by emitting more carbon dioxide. It is crucial to shift towards renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, and geo-thermal to meet our energy needs. Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is a thermodynamic cycle which utilizes an organic fluid with higher molecular mass and lower vaporization temperature than water-like organic fluids such as refrigerants. ORC technology powered by solar energy and waste heat plays an essential role in reducing carbon emission impact. It is becoming one of the most promising approaches to recovering waste heat using regenerative cycles. In this work, ORC driven by solar energy was performed in CYCLE tempo. The heat from solar panels was given as an input to run the ORC power system in the primary circuit. The system involves an evaporator, steam turbines (high pressure and low pressure), a condenser, a feed pump, a waste heat source and R134a as the working fluid for the primary ORC. In the secondary circuit, R245fa was used to produce additional power. Hence, the total power produced by the integration of these two circuits was 5.114 MW and a share of total electricity was utilized for hydrogen production by reversible fuel cells (i) Solid Oxide Electrolysis Fuel Cell (SOEFC) and (ii) Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC). They also compared the results of these fuel cells. The net power of 3.114 MW was available to meet local energy demands as well.

Journal of Mines Metals and Fuels, 2022
Inelastic behaviour and fracture in the metals act as a major failure leading to permanent breakage of the machine elements. Such a type of failures may cause from variety of loading and forces and tribological behaviour is also one of the phenomena. Tribological failures may cause when two rubbing surfaces are abraded depending on the loading. In the present study abrasion studies were done on the three base structural steels namely mild steel, cast iron, high carbon high chromium steel and heat resistant steel. Materials are subjected varied normal loading, time and different velocities of abrader. Volume loss was found out and inelastic and damage behaviour were studied in scanning electron microscope. It was found that volume loss was depending on hardness and volume loss increases with increasing in normal load and abrader. Various wear modes were found along with little fracture in the subsurface.
