  • Systematic literature review on the sustainability of higher education institutions (HEIs): dimensions, practices and research gaps
Mohamud Mohamed Hassan, Abd Rahman Ahmad
    Cogent Education, 2025
This article provides a comprehensive examination of how sustainability has been integrated into Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) globally between 2005 and 2025, with a focus on academic programs, institutional operations, financial strategies and governance frameworks. Through a systematic literature review (SLR) encompassing 566 peer-reviewed articles sourced from Scopus and Emerald Insight and guided by PRISMA criteria, the study identifies dominant trends, exemplary practices and persistent challenges, particularly in resource-constrained and post-conflict settings. Employing thematic coding, bibliometric mapping and keyword clustering, the analysis reveals seven principal themes: institutional strategies and governance, financial sustainability and resource mobilization, environmental initiatives, community and social engagement, curriculum and research for sustainability, theoretical frameworks and systemic integration. While environmental actions and curriculum reforms have gained traction, significant gaps remain in strategic coherence, financial resilience and social accountability, gaps that are especially evident in HEIs operating in post-conflict contexts. The study acknowledges limitations in its reliance on English-language sources and selected databases, recommending future research to incorporate grey literature and multilingual materials. The findings call for HEIs to adopt full-integrated approaches, align policies, and set tailored sustainability metrics. The study offers insights for leaders and policymakers to align HE systems with the UN-SDG Goals.

In Somalia the traditional medicine is widely used to treat different types of diseases. The rural communities trust and rely more on traditional healing as its part of their cultural experiences. The traditional knowledge regarding the Somali herbal medicine is yet to be documented to reserve for the future generation. This paper discusses the semantic knowledge representation of plants used in traditional medicine in Somalia. The study uses Acanthaceae-Chenopodiaceae family as a case study for the development of the ontology of the Somali medical plants. The study investigates the scientific name and the family of the plant, the vernacular or (indigenous name), parts of the plant used, medicinal usage, the method of preparation of remedy and the dosage. METHONTOLOGY ontology process life cycle is used to create the knowledge representation applying Resource Description Framework (RDF), Web Ontology Language (OWL), and RDF Query Language (SPARQL). In this ontology, data was gathered from previous publication on inventory of plants used in traditional medicine in Somalia especially the Acanthaceae-Chenopodiaceae family of plants. A prototype of a knowledge-based system is constructed based on the ontology classes in order to provide a well-defined model for Somali herbal plants used for traditional medicine. The findings of this study help to establish an ontology for Somali traditional medicinal plants, which is needed by a variety of parties and supports the best possible protection and utilization of Somali's botanical resources.

A spatially adaptable radio wire cluster (SAA) is an exhibit that can vary the actual field’s actual area. Ability to expand connect limit without employing an expanded boundary or many receive antenna components. This study presents a thorough examination of current microfluidic over 5G technologies and strategies. In this composition, a new RF feed arrangement is shown, along with the first SAA trial check that makes use of microfluidic-based reconfiguration. This study presents a thorough examination of current microfluidic over 5G technologies and strategies. The investigation’s goal was to create a component fix reception antenna using water-based fluidic stage shifters, where the pillar directing could be controlled by filling a few water channels for each antenna, and other approaches were put out by various researchers. These techniques have been broken down into categories that are easy to understand, such as the use of creating a stage Shifter and combining an array with a phase shifter. In each meeting, a limited number of excellent articles were examined and evaluated for idea confirmation. Finally, a comparison of various approaches was made.

2021 1st International Conference on Emerging Smart Technologies and Applications Esmarta 2021, 2021
In recent years, the Internet of Things (IoT) has received a lot of research attention. The IoT is considered part of the Internet of the future and is made up of billions of intelligent communication “things”. The future of the Internet will consist of heterogeneously connected devices that expand the world's boundaries with physical entities and virtual components. The Internet of Things (IoT) provides new functionality for related things. This study systematically examines the definition, architecture, essential technologies, and applications of IoT. First, I will introduce various definitions of IoT. Next, it will be discussed new techniques for implementing IoT. Third, several open issues related to IoT applications will be investigated. Finally, the key challenges that need to be addressed by the research community and possible solutions to address them are investigated.

  • A framework to analyze quality of service (Qos) for text-to-speech (TTS) services

Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing, 2017
Quality of service (QoS) evaluation is vital for text-to-speech (TTS) web service applications. Most of the current solutions focus on either evaluating functional or nonfunctional attributes of the TTS. In this paper, we propose a QoS framework to evaluate and analyze the perceived QoS that combines general and specific mechanisms for measuring both functional and nonfunctional requirements of speech quality. General mechanism measures the response time of TTS services while specific mechanism measures intelligibility and naturalness through subjective quality measurements, which are mapped onto mean opinion score (MOS). The result shows the workability of the framework, tested by predetermined users to three services: service1 (Fromtexttospeech) resulting 47.84%; service2 and service3 (NaturalReader and Yakitome) are 31.62 and 21.53% respectively. The TTS services evaluation can be to enhance the user experience.
