    Aip Conference Proceedings, 2024
The validation of analytical methods is key to ensure the quality of the measurements, generates trust, promotes efficiency, competitiveness, and technical capacity against peers. The present work sought to validate the analytical method of the American Society of Oil Chemists AOCS Ca-5a-40 to determine the content of free fatty acids (%FFA) in five types of oils: Soybean (Glycine max. L), Palm Kernel (Elaeis Guineensis), Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.), OxG Palm (Elaeis Oleifera - Elaeis Guineensis) and Palm (Elaeis Guineensis). The applied long R&R study determined that the analytical method works under conditions of repeatability and reproducibility and such contributions represent 0.01% of the total variance, while the measurement system contributes 2%. The main source of variability turned out to be the nature and composition of the samples. The performance parameters evaluated for the analytical method were: Measurement interval with values from 0.70% FFA to 3.46% FFA; Accuracy by percent recovery of 100.4% and bias with a value of 0.001%FFA; Precision by coefficients of variation for repeatability with values from 0.3% to 1.4% and coefficients of variation for reproducibility with values from 0.1% to 0.6%; Combined uncertainty of 0.021%FFA and the relative expanded uncertainty with values from 0.6% to 3.0%. The results obtained allow the validation of the AOCS Ca-5a-40 analytical method for the intended use under the conditions of the test laboratory, being within the suggested acceptance criteria.

    Tec Empresarial, 2023
The circular economy (CE) has been adopted as an alternative to the linear economic model, since it transforms the way products are designed and consumed. Agri-food chains are key to ensuring the transition to a sustainable development model in line with the principles of CE. This study sought to implement the concepts of circular economy at the Ecuador's banana production chain, through the design of prospective from the exhaustive diagnosis of the main processes of the chain. The research was conducted from 2020 to 2022. The studied checklist included 91 items grouped into nine dimensions: source or supply of materials, design, manufacturing, economic circle, distribution and sales, consumption and use, 4R, re-manufacturing, and sustainability. A medium circular economy level (CEL) was evaluated (2.69 points out of 5). Two machine learning techniques (MLTs) were also applied support vector machine (SVM), (with three types of kernel: radial, linear and polynomial) and a neural network (NN). In relation to the Spearman correlation coefficients of the application of the techniques to the study cases, they were higher than 0.90. The most reliable was the SVM Regression-Linear Kernel, which had a coefficient close to 1. Finally, various value-adding options are proposed in order to take advantage of the large amount of waste generated in the banana production system. The proposed options include value-augmentation processes, ranging from organic fertilizers, biofuels, materials for wastewater treatment, and the production of bioplastics and nanoparticles, which can be implemented using the CE approach.

The objective of this paper is derived from the theoretical analysis of the application of support vector machines to the design and management of agri-food chains. This analysis is conducted with an empirical approach, for the prediction of the level of integration in agri-food chains through support vector machines. The methodology designed and used for the processing of research results, which consists in the training of support vector machines is used to predict the level of integration in an agri-food chain. This type of predictive application appears in the literature consulted on the integration of agri-food chains. The analysis is performed comparing the method proposed with the neural network technique. The results of this research are mainly focused on predicting the level of integration in agri-food chains through vector machines. The study provides a support vector machine model that is applied to other case studies and therefore, allows predicting the outcome. The paper also shows the comparison of two techniques that share the goal of predicting, as applied in different contexts.
  • Integration and performance of the food supply chains aiming their circularity

    Revista Venezolana De Gerencia, 2021

At present, the integration in the supply chain facilitates the achievement of the competitiveness of its actors. It is an important factor when trying to reach common goals and high degree of interaction within each link of the chain. In this study, a diagnosis of the shirt supply chain in the northern area of Ecuador was developed and a set of strategies and joint objectives were proposed to improve the competitiveness of the actors involved. For this purpose, a verification instrument was designed, consisting of the dimensions of Strategy, Information, Planning, Purchases, Collaborative Inventory, Transport and Collaborative Performance, to evaluate the integration of 96 actors. The construct validity of the instrument was carried out and the information was processed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results of this research 1 Instituto de Posgrado. Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management, 2020
Purpose: This investigation is based on the theoretical analysis of the application of neural networks to the design and manage supply chains, along with an empirical approach, this investigation its developed with the prediction of the level of integration in the supply chain through neural networks.Design/methodology/approach: The methodology designed and used for the processing of data was the instruction of a neural network wich is used to predict the level of integration in a supply chain. This type of predictive application appears in the literature reviewed on supply chains. This analysis was carried out in a comparative way with the heterogeneous and homogeneous weights of the neuron training.Findings: The main results of this research focus on predicting the level of integration in the supply chain from the neoronal network. This provides a coached neuron that can be applied in other studies and, therefore, predict the outcome. On the other hand, it is shown that if the weights of the integration level variables are not homogeneous, the procedure presents different results depending on the context in which it is developed.Research limitations/implications: Among the limitations of the implementation of neural networks it should be noted, the necessary adaptation to the characteristics of the supply chains and the areas of performance of the business organizations under study, in the framework of activities productive or service itself, in addition to analyzing its corporate purpose in relation to the satisfaction of certain needs of the target markets.Originality/value: The literature shows multiple theoretical sources that refer to studies of neural networks in supply chains, observing the opportunity to apply this technique to predict the level of integration due to its benefits for decision making. The originality of this scientific work lies in the possibility of comparing the historical data of the level of integration and those predicted as a result of the coaching of the neuron with the weights of the heterogeneous and homogeneous variables.
