Impact assessment of multipurpose artificial insemination technicians in rural India training for rural youth pathway for self-employment ATUL KUMAR VERMA, JITENDRA PRATAP, ASHUTOSH TRIPATHI, AKHIL PATEL, MANISH KUMAR SHUKLA, VIJAY SINGH, MOHD. AMEER KHAN, VIKAS SACHAN, KULDEEP KUMAR TYAGI, RATAN GUPTA Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2025 The present study was carried out on 146 Multipurpose Artificial Insemination Technician in Rural India (MAITRI) trainees at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, during 2021–2024. The respondents represented Western, Eastern, and Central regions of Uttar Pradesh. The findings revealed that the majority of respondents were Hindu (91.10%), belonged to the OBC category (54.10%), were relatively young (53.42%), and had limited professional experience (84.93%) in artificial insemination (A.I.). Despite facing several challenges–such as economic constraints, logistical issues, and lack of advanced technologies–most respondents reported that A.I. services and semen quality were adequate to achieve conception rates within the expected level (30–40%). The majority of respondents (72.60%) performed a relatively low number of inseminations (0–6 animals) per day, usually alongside their primary treatment activities, which contributed to lower daily income from this profession in their area. The chi–square test analysis showed a highly significant association between the three regions of Uttar Pradesh (Western, Eastern, and Central) and several parameters, including number of A.I. performed per day, average daily income, number of inseminations using sex–sorted semen per week, income from other sources, distance covered per day, and utilization of liquid nitrogen. A significant association (P ≤ 0.05) was also observed with average daily expenditure. However, parameters such as landholding capacity and work experience were found to be non–significant.

Co-expression network analysis for identification of candidate genes regulating phosphorus use efficiency in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Nikhil Chand, Rekha Dixit, Pankaj Kumar, Kuldeep Tyagi, Neelesh Kapoor, Nitesh Singh, Prashant Vikram, Sumira Malik Plant Science Today, 2025 Phosphorus (P) is a crucial nutrient for plants, but its deficiency can significantly reduce crop yields, especially in wheat. To understand the genetic basis of Phosphorus Use Efficiency (PUE) in wheat, we analyzed the gene expression patterns of plants under phosphorus stress. We identified and analyzed 1194 differentially expressed genes, constructing a network of these genes through cytoscape. We have extracted 26 hub genes from this network, which are key players in PUE. These hub genes are involved in various biological processes related to phosphorus uptake, transport and utilization, as revealed by KEGG pathway analysis. Our findings provide valuable insights into the genetic mechanisms underlying PUE in wheat and may contribute to the development of strategies for improving crop yields in phosphorus-deficient environments.
Body Condition Scoring and Serum Metabolic Profiles vis-avis Parity in Postpartum Surti Buffaloes K.R. Sriranga, T.K.S. Rao, K.R. Harini, K.K. Tyagi Asian Journal of Dairy and Food Research, 2023 Background: Lactating animals tend to lose body tissue reserves in support of lactation and move into a negative energy balance that leads to a higher incidence of metabolic disorders and compromised productive performance. Despite several efforts to assess the influence of parity on BCS and metabolic profiles in postpartum buffaloes, systematic information is less. The current study was conducted to evaluate the effect of parity on metabolic profile and changes in BCS in postpartum Surti buffaloes. Methods: In the present study conducted from September-2017 to May-2018, fourteen postpartum Surti buffaloes were selected and grouped based on parity as primiparous and multiparous (2nd to 5th lactation). The blood sample was collected from all the selected animals on the day of calving, 15th, 30th and 60th day post calving. Serum biochemical parameters viz., glucose, total protein, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), cholesterol and Non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) were analysed. The body condition score (BCS) was assessed from the day of calving up to 60th day of the study at 15-day interval. Result: The study revealed that the BCS was significantly higher in multiparous buffaloes as compared to primiparous group. Among biochemical parameters, glucose was significantly higher in primiparous group as compared to their multiparous counterparts. Parity did not have a significant influence on serum total protein, BUN, cholesterol and NEFA. However, NEFA was slightly higher in multiparous group of Surti buffaloes. High NEFA and low serum glucose indicated a greater degree of negative energy balance in multiparous buffaloes due to higher milk output.

Prenatal gross morphometrical studies on spleen with special reference to prediction of foetal age in Surti goat (Capra hircus) Shailendra Chaurasia, R. Menaka, Thakur Krishna Shankar Rao, K.K. Tyagi Indian Journal of Animal Research, 2019 A study was conducted to elucidate the topographic location and morphometry of the spleen in 30 Surti goat foetuses at different stages of their development ranging from 44 to 144 days (4.0 to 41.0 cm CRL). On the basis of CR length, the foetuses were divided into three age groups viz., group-I (4.0 to 11.6 cm CRL), group-II (12.2 to 26.8 cm CRL) and group-III (27.2 to 41.0 cm CRL). Special attempt has been made to fit prediction equation (stepwise regression) for estimation of approximate age of Surti goat foetuses by using splenic biometrics. The developing spleen was observed at the age of 44 days (4.0 cm CRL) in abdominal cavity close to the stomach. The shape of spleen was roughly quadrilateral in all age groups. The various spleen measurements viz., length, width, thickness, volume and weight increases in dimensions during different stages of development and all the changes were highly significant (P less than 0.01). The mean relative weight of spleen was maximum (0.15%) in group-III. Among splenic parameters, the length of spleen was found most important variable; which could be used for estimation of age using stepwise regression (R2 = 0.97) model in Surti goat foetuses.
