Innovative Design of Gingham Pattern Patch Antenna Integrated With Kagome Lattice Photonic Crystal Structure for Terahertz Applications Prem Anand Madeswaran, Sivakumar Dhandapani, Thirumaraiselvan Packirisamy Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies, 2025 The terahertz (THz) range is perfect for high‐throughput applications like enhanced sensing, ultra‐fast wireless backhauls, and real‐time virtual and augmented reality because of its availability of unoccupied spectrum, which permits unparalleled bandwidths. The novel THz designs and components are being propelled by recent developments in nanomaterials, photonic devices, and intelligent surfaces. Additionally, the integration of THz waves with sensing and security capabilities opens up new paradigms in secure communication, healthcare applications, and intelligent settings. To achieve reliable and extensible THz communication systems, this article delves into the necessary technologies, propagation properties, and future study paths. Photonic crystals (PhC) have recently gained popularity for use in cutting‐edge electromagnetic fields because of their remarkable controllability over the transmission of electromagnetic waves. The use of PhC ideas along with old and new antenna designs offers a way to create antennas that are very directional, slim, and adjustable. This article proposes a new design that combines the Kagome lattice PhC structure with a modified patch antenna that uses a Gingham sequence. The air holes in the Kagome lattice are optimized to enhance antenna characteristics like return loss (RL), gain, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), directivity, and so on. The proposed Kagome lattice PhC antenna works at THz frequency; hence, it is suitable for medical applications like cancer detection, and so on.
Implementing kagome lattice photonic crystal structure for high-speed terahertz applications Prem Anand Madeswaran, Sivakumar Dhandapani, Thirumaraiselvan Packirisamy Journal of Nanophotonics, 2025 Terahertz (THz) communication is a promising way to meet the growing need for more rapid and trustworthy wireless communication. It has the potential to provide data speeds that surpass those of current systems. THz communication is significant in telecommunications due to its ability to transfer data at high speeds and manage the growing number of internet-connected devices. The photonic crystal (PhC) plays a vital role in achieving a high data rate. This article introduces the innovative kagome lattice PhC structure featuring the distinct Gingham pattern patch antenna (GPPA) which operates at the frequency of 2.09 THz. The GPPA structure is designed and examines performances like return loss (RL), voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), directivity, and bandwidth. By integrating the GPPA structure with the kagome lattice PhC structure, the antenna characteristics are further improved. The cylindrical air pores in the kagome lattice are tuned for various diameters to find the optimal GPPA-based PhC structure. The optimized GPPA-based kagome lattice PhC antenna delivers −61.08 dB RL, 1.0031 VSWR, 8.812 dBi gain, 8.895 dB directivity, and 0.496 THz bandwidth. The proposed antenna structure is applicable to detect tumor detection. The antenna characteristics are obtained as −44.10 dB RL, 1.0125 VSWR, 7.987 dBi gain, 8.192 dB directivity, and 0.406 THz bandwidth with the presence of tumor cells. Because of its effective bandwidth delivery, the suggested GPPA architecture is well-suited to applications requiring high data transfer rates, such as those in the medical field, and advanced wireless communication.
Analysis of Super-Solar Integrated Patch Antenna for Sub-6 GHz and Beyond 6 GHz Millimeter Wave 5G Applications Suresh Babu T. Naganathan, Sivakumar Dhandapani, Thirumaraiselvan Packirisamy Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society Journal, 2022 This article describes a new compact parasitic patch-loaded transparent patch antenna with a copper ground plane for wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi) and 5thgeneration (5G) millimeter-wave (mm-wave) applications. The proposed antenna uses two rectangular parasitic patches with a rectangular main radiation patch. The L-shaped strips are also added to the main radiation patch and one of the rectangular parasitic patches to cover both the sub-6 GHz and beyond 6 GHz mm-wave 5G frequency spectrums. The same transparent patch antenna with a solar ground plane is built, and its effect is parametrically studied alongside the integration of a polycrystalline silicon solar cell. The proposed antennas with a dimension of 42x30x2 mm23 are fabricated and experimentally validated for impedance and radiation characteristics. In terms of impedance bandwidth, the proposed copper ground plane antenna offers 36.89% (5.04-7.32 GHz), 5.15% (14.35-15.11 GHz), 6.23% (27.08-28.79 GHz), and 21.34% (31.64-39.81 GHz). The solar cell serves as both a photovoltaic generator and the ground plane of the transparent antenna. The same radiating patch with a solar ground plane offers impedance bandwidth of 36.03% (4.47-6.56 GHz), 14.4% (9.6-11.12 GHz), 2.55% (22.14-22.71 GHz), and 27.9% (28.79-39.05 GHz) for 5G applications.
Solar Cell Integrated Wearable Patch Antenna on Artificial Magnetic Conductor for On-Body and In-Body Communications Suresh Babu T. Naganathan, Sivakumar Dhandapani Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society Journal, 2022 This paper presents a patch antenna on a jeans textile with an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) structure stacked on a solar cell for wearable applications in the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band. Meanwhile, the loading of the AMC reflector increases the radiation efficiency and antenna gain and also results in a reduction in specific absorption rate levels. As examination cases, two textile antenna designs loaded on 7 × 8 patches of AMC plane with the ground plane of both fully copper conductor and partially copper aided with solar cells were fabricated and tested, presenting a strong agreement between simulation and measurement. Its measured impedance bandwidth is 13.79% (2.16 GHz–2.48 GHz) with good return loss and voltage standing wave ratio features in the operating band where it is being used. Besides being a source of electricity, the silicon solar cells are also used as a radio frequency ground plane for the AMC plane. They can produce363.08 mW.

Experimental Characterization of Sprays in a Recessed Gas-Centered Swirl Coaxial Atomizer A. Joseph, R. Sakthikumar, D. Sivakumar Journal of Fluids Engineering Transactions of the ASME, 2020 The characteristics of sprays from a recessed gas-centered swirl coaxial atomizer (RGCSCA) with gas to liquid momentum flux ratio, J of the spray in the range of 2–66 are studied experimentally through the analysis of spray morphologies and droplets characteristics. The process of fully developed spray (spray free from ligaments/droplets clusters and nonspherical droplets) in the atomizer is quantified. In the RGCSCA, the distance from the atomizer exit to the fully developed spray zone decreases with increase in J. Detailed measurements of size (in the range of 6–378 μm) and velocity (in the range of 35–176 m/s) characteristics of spray droplets are carried out using phase Doppler interferometry (PDI) in the fully developed spray. The spray from the RGCSCA is comprised of two distinct spray morphologies: a central dense spray of finer droplets and an outer coarse spray. The mean drop size of the central spray exhibits a decreasing trend with the increase in J whereas that of the outer coarse spray is independent of J. The radial profiles of the mean velocities of sprays at different J are presented. For the sprays with low inertia liquid sheets, the shape of mean axial velocity profiles is Gaussian.
