  • Design and characterization of high gain amplifier for ELF receiver application

    This paper deals with the design and characterization of high gain amplifier for extremely low frequency (ELF) receiver application. As the low level of ELF waves received by the antenna, an amplifier is considerably required to enhance receiver performance before data acquisition. The amplifier is built based on a low noise operational amplifier (Op-Amp) OP27 and intended to achieve high amplification in the frequency range of 1Hz to 50Hz. In order to avoid undesired frequency, the amplifier is equipped with the 2nd order low-pass active filter using the Sallen-Key topology with the cut-off frequency of 50Hz. The characterization results show that the proposed ELF receiver has maximum high gain of 60.8dB and high sensitivity for different low level inputs.
  • Comparison of Solar Tracking and Solar Fix Mode on the Efficiency Electric Energy Generation Based on Microcontroller

    Abstract A Solar tracker is a device that is powered by solar panels motors, aiming to adjust the position of the panel with the movement of the sun so that energy can be absorbed optimally. This study will compare the use of solar panels and solar trackers fix the model, so on getting the efficiency of each system. The test site is on the campus of the Institute of Technology of Sumatra. Prototype solar tracker is controlled using a microcontroller Arduino, ethernet shield as a liaison Arduino with local networks that can be connected to the web, the stepper motor is used as a driver, is equipped with a voltage sensor, current sensor, the sensor LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) for parameter tracking the sun, solar charge controller as control the charging and battery as energy storage. Parameter solar energy tracker and fix displayed realtime models consist of the reading of voltage, current, and power in the form of a graph on a web monitoring. Calculation of energy that can be generated a model of solar tracker is the difference between the energy stored in the battery is reduced by the energy to activate the motor driver, so we get solar tracker models to use efficiency as compared to fixed models.
  • Analysis of Generating Pico Hydro Power Plants (PLTPH) Case Study: Reservoir e Institut Teknologi Sumatera

    Abstract The mission of the Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) is to contribute to the empowerment of the potential that exists in the Sumatra region. In line with this mission, in an effort to support the acceleration of renewable energy growth in Sumatra, labor needs to be prepared that can be used directly by students to prove theory in class, one of which is a hydroelectric power plant, with a small capacity (pico hydro) with the use of ITERA reservoir water. This paper will discuss the design of a pico hydro power plant that matches the conditions of the ITERA reservoir by modeling using Matlab / Simulink. The simulation results with a 5.46 meter head and a 0.4 m3 / s discharge obtained a power of 12.61 kW.
  • Energy Monitoring System Based on Internet of Things Toward Smart Campus in Institut Teknologi Sumatera

    The critical subject to provide energy consumption graphs from a building is an energy monitoring system. With the rapid Internet of Things (IoT) development, it is possible to develop a better energy monitoring system based on IoT. This system presents the real-time energy consumption data. Hence, this paper proposes the development of an energy monitoring system prototype based on IoT for buildings in Institut Teknologi Sumatera campus area. The current and voltage are measured in real-time for each wiring phase on the building electrical panel. The data is collected in the cloud server and displayed in a web-based system using custom web panel. Finally, the prototype is implemented in the building during 24/7 for one week achieving about 97% of the accuracy.
  • Smart-Room Technology Implementation Based on Internet of Things Toward Smart Campus in Institut Teknologi Sumatera

    Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) has started the development of smart campus aiming to decrease the wastage of electricity energy. In our college, we observe that the lights or air conditioning are kept on even when there is nobody in the room. In this paper, the implementation of smart-room technology based on the Internet of Things is proposed to increase the energy efficiency. With the use of small chip of ESP8266, we develop a smart-switch to control on/off for the lights. The smart-switches are connected with another sensor node to adjust the intensity of sunlight by moving the curtain position. Another node has a role in controlling air conditioning without human interaction. In front of the door, we install the visitor counter to count the number of persons who are entering the room. This paper provides a model to manage a lot of sensor in the room to create a smart room that could be used in daily life. The implementation results show that the proposed smart-room technology is working with excellence.
