Evaluation of psychosocial status and nutritional awareness in municipal employees during the coronavirus disease 2019 outbreak: A cross-sectional study Büşranur Delice, Neda Saleki, Merve Pehlivan, Fatma E Sezer, Hande Bakırhan, Volkan Özkaya Nutrition and Health, 2026 Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 emerged in China in December 2019 as a disease spreading from person to person by rapid droplet transmission, and which eventually evolved into a pandemic. Aim: This study aims to examine the psychosocial state, nutritional awareness, and physical activity level of municipal employees who provided services under changing working conditions during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Methods: A total of 220 employees working in two different municipalities in Istanbul were included in this study during March and April of 2021. For data collection, a questionnaire form was used. The form consisted of questions about the demographics and nutritional awareness of individuals, the Coronavirus-19 Phobia Scale, and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (short form). Results: The mean total coronaphobia score was 51.08 ± 14.47 with the mean score for women being significantly higher than that for men ( p < 0.05). The mean score obtained by the responses of participants to questions about nutritional awareness during the pandemic was significantly higher than the mean score referring to the period before the pandemic. The examination of the physical activity level of employees revealed that 62.4% of the men and 60% of the women were physically inactive during the pandemic. Conclusion: It was found that the coronaphobia scores of municipal employees during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic were at an average level, their nutritional awareness levels increased in general compared to the pre-pandemic period, and municipal employees were mostly inactive physically during the pandemic.
The Relationship Between Satisfaction Levels With Distance Learning, Perceived Stress, and Depression Levels of Nutrition and Dietetics Students Hilal Hizli-Guldemir, Neda Saleki, Busranur Delice, İpek Hacioglu, Busra Yildiz Topics in Clinical Nutrition, 2025 In this study, the relationship between satisfaction with distance learning, perceived stress, and depression levels of nutrition and dietetics students (n = 358) was investigated. The data collection form consisted of views on distance learning, Satisfaction Scale for E-Courses, Perceived Stress Scale, and Beck Depression Scale. While nearly half of the participants had positive opinions about the effectiveness, learning objectives, and dissemination of distance learning for theoretical courses, more than half had negative opinions about distance learning for internships. Online course satisfaction was determined as moderate (x̄/k = 3.20). It is recommended to improve the distance learning techniques in nutrition and dietetics education, especially in internships.
Temporal microbiome changes in axolotl limb regeneration: Stage-specific restructuring of bacterial and fungal communities with a Flavobacterium bloom during blastema proliferation Hanne Altın, Büşra Delice, Berna Yıldırım, Turan Demircan, Süleyman Yıldırım Wound Repair and Regeneration, 2024 The intricate relationship between regeneration and microbiota has recently gained attention, spanning diverse model organisms. Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) is a critically endangered salamander species and a model organism for regenerative and developmental biology. Despite its significance, a noticeable gap exists in understanding the interplay between axolotl regeneration and its microbiome. Here, we analyse in depth bacterial 16S rRNA amplicon dataset that we reported before as data resource and profile fungal community by sequencing ITS amplicons at the critical stages of limb regeneration (0–1–4–7–30–60 days post amputation, ‘dpa’). Results reveal a decline in richness and evenness in the course of limb regeneration, with bacterial community richness recovering beyond 30 dpa unlike fungi community. Beta diversity analysis reveals precise restructuring of the bacterial community along the three phases of limb regeneration, contrasting with less congruent changes in the fungal community. Temporal dynamics of the bacterial community highlight prevalent anaerobic bacteria in initiation phase and Flavobacterium bloom in the early phase correlating with limb blastema proliferation. Predicted functional analysis mirrors these shifts, emphasising a transition from amino acid metabolism to lipid metabolism control. Fungal communities shift from Blastomycota to Ascomycota dominance in the late regeneration stage. Our findings provide ecologically relevant insights into stage specific role of microbiome contributions to axolotl limb regeneration.
Water and beverage consumption habits of adults in Turkey by gender and BMI: a cross-sectional survey Merve Pehlivan, Neda Saleki, Fatma Elif Sezer, Fatmanur Özyürek, Büşranur Delice, Hilal Hızlı Güldemir International Journal of Environmental Health Research, 2024 The study aims to determine water and beverage consumption status and related factors in daily nutrition of adults living in Turkey. This study was conducted with 6332 adults aged 18-65 years across Turkey. Demographics and anthropometric data of subjects, their daily water and beverage consumption habits were explored using the retrospective 24-hour recall method. Water and black tea were the most consumed beverages (1801.38 ± 11.06 mL/day, 455 ± 6.10 mL/day, respectively). Increased BMI was associated with a significantly decreased rate of insufficient fluid intake among the participants. Underweight individuals were found to be consuming less (by 0.558 times) fluid compared to those with normal BMI, while obese individuals appeared to have greater energy intake from daily fluid consumption (by 1.111 times). This study showed a relationship between water and beverage intake and anthropometric measurements, suggesting that further research on personalized water intake strategies is beneficial in weight management.
