One-Dimensional Copper(II) Coordination Polymer Based on 1,2-bis-(4-Pyridyl) Ethane and 1,10-Phenathroline V. A. Kawade, S. S. Bhat, S. Naveen, N. K. Lokanath, R. J. Butcher Journal of Structural Chemistry, 2023 Abstract The one dimensional copper(II) coordination polymer {[Cu(phen)(bpe)(NO3)(H2O)](NO3)(H2O)}n (1) has been synthesized using [Cu(phen)2(NO3)2] (where phen = 1′10-phenanthroline and linker bpe = 1,2-bis-(4-pyridyl) ethane. Complex 1 was characterised by using elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The copper(II) ion is octahedrally coordinated with two nitrogen donor atoms from two bpe, two nitrogen donor atoms from phen, one oxygen donor atom from water and one oxygen donor atom from nitrato. Each 1D polymeric chain is connected to another chain via hydrogen bonding and π…π stacking interaction to form 3D network structures.
CHARACTERIZATION, CRYSTAL STRUCTURE, ANTICANCER AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF NOVEL N-(2-OXO-2-(10H-PHENOTHIAZIN-10-YL) ETHYL)PIPERIDINE-1-CARBOXAMIDE Manasa A. Doddagaddavalli, S. S. Bhat, J. Seetharamappa Journal of Structural Chemistry, 2023 Abstract A new compound, N-(2-oxo-2-(10H-phenothiazin-10-yl)ethyl)piperidine-1-carboxamide (PTZ–PIP) was synthesized and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H and 13C NMR) and mass spectrometry. The molecular structure of the compound (PTZ–PIP) was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray crystallographic studies. The compound (PTZ–PIP) was crystallized in a monoclinic crystal system with a space group of C2. The anticancer and antioxidant activity of the compound was investigated.
Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes of 1,8-naphthalimide-based ligand: syntheses, characterizations and evaluation of antibacterial activities Sabiha A. Shaikh, Satish S. Bhat, Vidyanand K. Loknath, Vijay Kumbar Journal of Coordination Chemistry, 2023 Mononuclear later first-row transition metal complexes, [M(L)2] (1–4), where M = Co(II) (1), Ni(II) (2), Cu(II) (3), and Zn(II) (4) incorporating 1,8-naphthalimide based ligand were designed. The complex preparation was achieved by reacting metal nitrates with ligand (L) in 1:2 stoichiometry. The ligand and complexes were characterized with analytical and photophysical techniques. Single crystal X-ray diffraction determines that 3 is square planar. The complexes are highly fluorescent compared to the free ligand. The synthesized ligand (L) and complexes (1–4) were screened for their antibacterial activities against gram-positive [Streptococcus mutans (SM), Staphylococcus aureus (SA)] and gram-negative [Escherichia coli (EC), Klebsiella pneumoniae (KL)] bacterial strains. Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes exhibited good activity against K. pneumonia and S. aureus compared to the free ligand. Particularly effective against gram-negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae), Ni(II) complex (2) has a MIC value of 6.25 µM and exhibits similar activity to standard ciprofloxacin. Cu(II) complex (3) is two times more effective than the common antibiotic ciprofloxacin with a MIC value of 3.125 µM against gram-positive bacteria (S. aureus).

Revankar, Vijay Kumbar, Kishore Bhat Acta Crystallographica Section C Structural Chemistry, 2022 The mixed-ligand fluorophore-labelled copper(II) complex aqua[2,4-dioxo-3-azatricyclo[7.3.1.05,13]trideca-1(12),5,7,9(13),10-pentaen-3-olato-κ2 O 2,O 3](1,10-phenanthroline-κ2 N,N′)copper(II) nitrate, [Cu(C12H6NO3)(C12H8N2)(H2O)]NO3·CH3OH or [Cu(L)(phen)(H2O)]NO3·CH3OH (where phen is 1,10-phenanthroline and HL is N-hydroxynaphthalene-1,8-dicarboximide), (1), was synthesized and structurally characterized. The structure of (1) was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray structure determination. The complex crystallized in the triclinic space group P-1. The geometry around the copper centre is distorted square pyramidal, with the apical position occupied by a water molecule. The complex is highly fluorescent in organic and aqueous solutions. It has good anticancer activity, with an IC50 value of 17 µM, which is almost five times greater than cisplatin (IC50 = 82 µM) under identical experimental conditions.
