    E3s Web of Conferences, 2023
Industrial organisations must now develop and implement novel approaches to operations and production if they are to compete effectively on a global scale. Changes in product development practises and the use of new technologies have occurred. Businesses encounter problems and difficulties as a direct result of the rapid pace of market change. Organisational priorities focus on minimising waste while simultaneously improving quality and cutting costs. Lean manufacturing is an established approach that should be included into every strategic company strategy. Lean manufacturing concept is a revolutionary that aims to increase resource use while minimising waste. Lean manufacturing has been shown to increase plant efficiency and decrease processing times in major manufacturing operations. In the end, industries depend greatly on their capacity to systematically and consistently cope with obstacles in order to increase product value. Therefore, a value-adding framework must be implemented; the adoption of a lean manufacturing system becomes crucial for any kind of business if it is to achieve this level of perfection. This article gives a overview of lean manufacturing their concepts, tools with application and artificial intelligence in lean manufacturing.
  • Composites Based on Sustainable Biomass Fiber for Automotive Brake Pads
Camelia Pinca-Bretotean, Ana Josan, Arun Kumar Sharma
    Materiale Plastice, 2023
Biomass fibers are promising materials for applications in modern vehicles. They have great economic and ecological significance, as well as a great potential in the fabrication of composite materials due to the relatively high level of strength and rigidity, low density, availability, recyclability, and biodegradability. In this context, the focus is on the development of automotive brake pad materials from sustainable sources. This work refers to the investigation of the behavior of composite materials made of biomass fibers, phenolic resin, graphite and aluminum oxide. These materials are intended to be used for brake pads on automobiles with moderate efficiency. For this purpose, three recipes of composite materials with different percentages of coconut fiber and wood powder were developed in laboratory. The physical and mechanical as well as functional properties of these composite materials with varying amounts of biomass fibers are examined in this paper. The best performances in this terms was obtained for the composite material containing the highest amount of wood powder and the lowest amount of coconut fiber.
  • Influence of thermal stresses on the phenomenon of thermal fatigue of rolling cylinders
    C Pinca-Bretotean, A Josan, Arun Kumar Sharma
Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2023
Hot rolling cylinders are the most important machine parts in plastic deformation equipment. They are taken out of operation due to breakage caused by the predominant action of thermal stresses which cause accidental breakdowns of rolling mills. In view of these aspects, the question arose is to knowing the nature of these stresses, as well as their evaluation. This paper will experimentally determine the mechanical and thermal stresses that arise in the process of plastic deformation of hot rolling cylinders. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the thermal stresses and compare them with the mechanical ones, as well as to highlight their influence on the thermal fatigue phenomenon. The study shows that the stresses in rolling cylinders are cyclical and occur at each rotation of the cylinders. The thermal stresses are mainly the result of the action of symmetric and asymmetric temperature fields. The overall action of thermal stresses presents an aspect of destruction of the surface layer that characterizes the effect of thermal fatigue phenomenon. The separation of the temperature fields that produce thermal stresses in symmetric and asymmetric and their experimental confirmation represents the originality of the research presented in this paper.
  • Investigation of functional characteristics of composites used for brake pads
    C Pinca-Bretotean, Arun Kumar Sharma, A Josan
Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2022
The friction material used for the brake pads should have a low wear rate, outstanding thermal stability to hold the braking properties of the vehicle and coefficient of friction should constant under different operating conditions which include loads which applied, temperature, dry or wet braking environment and speed. Due to this reason, every newly developed friction material’s fabrication should undergo a series of experimental tests to evaluate the friction as well as wear properties. In this article a study of frictional and wear behavior of friction material for ecological brake pads of road vehicles discussed. In the formulation of the friction material shells as a filler, a small amount of metal, silicon carbide, graphite, resin and hexametiltetramine were used. The main objective of the paper refers to the investigation of the impact of the working regime on friction material’s tribological characteristics. In this sense, were studied the evolution of the coefficient of friction and the thermal field at the contact surface between the friction couplings, the influence of load on the friction coefficient at different speeds and the influence of load on wear rate at a constant speed. The knowledge of the functional properties of the newly developed friction material produced in the laboratory provides the possibility of pertinent assessments regarding the durability of the brake pads during operations, as well as on the quantity of wear products released into the atmosphere. The results concluded that as a filler material this species of shells may be used in the fabrication of brake pads for road vehicles.

Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2021
The consumption of composites has gradually raised in recent times and is incredibly likely to expand more in the future. Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) provide an extensive range of benefits when compared with the common materials in certain conditions. Aluminum and its alloy-based composites in the current manufacturing scenario have a significant role to play in the advanced technological fields. Typically Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites (AlMMCs) used for its good strength, less density, excellent stiffness, lightweight, toughness, resistance to corrosion, fatigue, creep and wear relative to non-reinforced alloy. The AlMMCs, since their combination of the above-mentioned properties, are ideal suitable materials for many applications. Enhancement in these properties is accomplished by adequate customizing reinforcements in the base metal matrix. It is commonly used therefore in the aircraft, automobile, marine, leisure, telecommunications industries. In assessing the overall effectiveness of the composites there is a significant factor is reinforcement materials. The decision of a suitable type of reinforcement materials and volume are also important challenges within this paper the impact of different amounts of reinforcement has been studied. The silicon carbide (SiC) used as reinforcement material and Al6061used as Matrix material in AlMMCs are addressed. The effect of SiC on characteristics of AlMMCs explored in brief.

Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2021
Brake pads are a crucial component of the braking system in an automotive vehicle. It is a primary factor in ensuring the normal driving of motor vehicles and the safety of passengers. Therefore, the research and study of the brake pads are extremely important. The materials which used in the manufacturing of brake pads should be environmentally friendly as harmful substances releases during operations by asbestos containing brake pads, which pollute the environment and thus harmful for human so becomes a primary reason of acceleration for research and development of new materials for brake pads. Composite materials have required excellent properties, so it is gaining an important position in this field. In this research, composite materials with coconut fibre are produced in the laboratory which can be used to produce brake pads for braking systems of the medium-performance small car. This research aims primarily towards producing the composite material which consists of the best proportion of organic fibre to have superior physical-mechanical and tribological characteristics. To achieve these goals, the following steps have been taken, the laboratory manufacturing of organic composite materials, technological analysis of the samples, improving the qualitative characteristics of friction materials, determination of the physical-mechanical and tribological characteristics of the materials according to the standards in force. This paper provides a detailed investigation on the characteristics of composite materials made with coconut fibre for brake pads.
