    Scientific Reports, 2024
The present work focuses on suggesting Gr as a valuable self-lubricating reinforcement for hybrid composite samples and offering a minimum wear rate for sliding pairs with fewer mechanical surface defects at the same time. A series of samples were fabricated using the route by stir casting method considering B 4 C and Gr as the two reinforcements. The morphology of the sample has been studied using the X-ray diffraction graphs, Energy dispersive X-ray analysis and Scanning electron imaging stating the homogeneity of reinforcement in various composite cast. The theoretical and experimental density of the series of samples has been studied and compared stating the low porosity of the samples fabricated. A maximum wear rate ( W r ) of 0.351 × 10 −4 mm 3 /m. was found for pure aluminium sample against EN31 steel disc with 0.053 as friction coefficient (µ). W r was somehow seen to reduce up to 0.286 × 10 −4 mm 3 /m for Al-B 4 C composite with µ of 0.48. For hybrid samples, the wear rate was further seen to improve to 0.187 × 10 −4 mm 3 /m for Al-B 4 C and Gr 2.0% weight with µ of 0.38. Least W r was found for composite having Gr 3.5% weight, of 0.149 × 10 −4 mm 3 /m. with µ of 0.36. SEM images of the worn surface give evident results for delamination and crack formation on the pin face for the pure-Al sample. Taguchi-ANOVA analysis has been carried out showing the valid contribution of pin type, load and sliding speed on W r and friction coefficient as the P-value lies below 0.05 for input parameters considering the 95% confidence level of the model developed. An F-value of 44.57 with R 2 of 0.895 is developed for W r model and an F-value of 54.2 with R 2 of 0.934 for the µ model.

Metal Matrix Composites A Modern Approach to Manufacturing, 2024
In today’s world, there are different materials that are already used in certain applications and have been performing well. As the need and the complications in certain areas have been progressively discovered, there is a wide requirement for materials’ research that has a combined effect of more than one property which is a limitation of monolithic materials. To have such an effect, the fabrication of certain materials having a well-tailored blend of properties as per the reinforcement is used to form a composite. A review has been carried out for the various research works and the effort is being made to summarize the effect of mono and hybrid reinforcements on the materialistic properties as compared to the base material.

Ecs Journal of Solid State Science and Technology, 2023
Aluminium is one of the most widely available metals and its application is seen vastly due to its high strength-to-weight ratio as compared to other metals being cost effective at the same time. Its application is found to be in various structural, automobile and machine industries. But somehow due to its ductile nature, challenging conditions like high-speed applications with minimal wear and friction loss are an important aspect to look forward to. Al6063-based hybrid composites having boron carbide (B4C) 4% wt. and graphite (Gr) 0/2/3.5/5% wt. composites have been fabricated by the stir casting route using K2TiF6 for enhancing the particle dispersion in the metal matrix. XRD, SEM and EDAX results have been obtained for the composites fabricated for characterization. Impact and hardness test results show improvement in the toughness and hardness of the fabricated composites. SEM images of the fractured specimen have been obtained which depict the inhibition of crack propagation due to the boron carbide and graphite reinforcement’s presence. Pin-on-disc wear tests have been carried out considering the L25 Taguchi orthogonal array along with TOPSIS optimization for finding the best and the worst conditions for wear analysis considering the closeness coefficient, C j .

Electric discharge machining has been the one of the advanced machining processes that deals with the machining of intricate and complex shapes on a workpiece considering various parameters like surface roughness and higher accuracy. A lot of research has been carried out in the EDM area for developing various models and selecting the best optimum condition for machining using conventional or wire EDM. Some results regarding submerged and dry EDM processing have also been discussed. Along with this, a recent development of smart EDM is also discussed for predicting the future capabilities of an EDM machine. In this article a light has being thrown on all the recent developments being done on the basis of machining capabilities, parameter, along with the characteristics of machining surface and various wire materials and the effect on the EDM wire during machining and the overall performance.

Advances in Nonconventional Machining Processes, 2020
Abrasive Machining has been seen making a significant advancement in recent years. Localized erosion with intensification-based technology used in manufacturing is known as Abrasive jet machining. This paper emphasizes on the recent advances being done in the various parameters and innovative techniques like thermal assistance, completely or intermediate submerge conditions on jet used for machining etc. Advancement in AJM is also seen in certain areas like tribology. There are certain areas like micro machining and polishing of small micro channels which also harness its advantages. It is also found that a new way of machining has been developed using elastic erosion. Other than this, certain parameters like material of jet nozzle, its design criteria, particle size, and flow rate of jet used are reviewed too. large amount of micro machining and Composite material machining advancements has been witnessed using the Abrasive jet machining.
