Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy, 2025
BACKGROUND: Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome is a common musculoskeletal condition characterized by anterior knee pain, especially among athletes and active individuals. Taping techniques such as Kinesio taping and rigid taping are widely used as conservative interventions. However, the effectiveness of taping on pain reduction and functional improvement remains debated. OBJECTIVE: To systematically review and synthesize the evidence on the effect of taping on pain and function in athletes with patellofemoral pain syndrome. Methods A comprehensive literature search was conducted across databases, including PubMed, Scopus, PEDro, and Web of Science. Randomized trials evaluating the effect of taping on pain with or without function in athletes with PFPS were included. Methodological quality was assessed by PEDro. Risk of bias was assessed by Cochrane's Risk of Bias Tool Version 2. Meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager (RevMan 5.4). RESULTS: = 0.05, SMD = 1.06, 95% CI = 0.02) showed a significant reduction in pain and improvement in function with taping, especially when combined with exercise therapy. Rigid taping showed more significant results than Kinesio taping. CONCLUSION: This review concludes that rigid taping provides short-term benefits in reducing pain and improving function in patients with PFPS, especially when integrated with exercise-based rehabilitation. - Impact of Oromotor Stimulation on Transition from Gavage to Full Oral Feeding in Preterm Neonates: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: The premature infant oral motor intervention (PIOMI) has demonstrated benefits in improving oral feeding abilities and reducing hospitalization duration in preterm neonates. However, evidence from rural health care settings, particularly in India, remains sparse. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of PIOMI combined with routine neonatal care versus routine care alone on the transition time from gavage feeding initiation to full breastfeeding in preterm neonates. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 202 hemodynamically stable preterm neonates of 28–32 weeks’ gestation admitted to the NICU and SNCU of a rural tertiary care center in India. Participants were randomized into an intervention group receiving PIOMI plus routine care—which included Kangaroo Mother Care and non-nutritive sucking—and a control group receiving routine care alone. Neonates were stratified by gestational age into four categories: 28–29, 29–30, 30–31, and 31–32 weeks. The primary outcomes were times to achieve full katori spoon feeding and full breastfeeding. Secondary outcomes included weight gain from day 14 to day 20 of life. Results: The intervention group achieved initial katori spoon feeding earlier by 0.71 days (95% CI: –1.30 to –0.12; p = 0.017), full katori spoon feeding 6.89 days sooner (95% CI: –8.13 to –5.65; p < 0.001), and full breastfeeding 5.71 days earlier (95% CI: –7.02 to –4.40; p < 0.001) than the control group. Average weight gain between days 14 and 20 was modestly lower in the intervention group by 5.36 g/day (95% CI: –6.48 to –4.25; p < 0.001). Conclusions: PIOMI significantly shortened the transition from gavage to full breastfeeding in preterm neonates in a rural Indian setting, although with a slight reduction in weight gain during the latter hospital stay period. - Rehabilitation Medicine for Physiotherapy

Pediatric tumors are rare, but often rapidly progressive malignancies which require early diagnosis, accurate staging, and appropriate treatment. Complications due to over treatment or under treatment of pediatric malignancies are a major concern and thus, prompt but pertinent workup along with early treatment response evaluation of tumors is vital. Molecular imaging techniques with positron emission tomography (PET) with computed tomography (PET/CT) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with CT (SPECT/CT) can often localize and accurately stage pediatric malignancies before morphological changes are evident with anatomical imaging techniques. These findings can help determine the clinical prognosis and treatment plan. In post-therapy patients, PET/CT and SPECT/CT may more accurately identify or exclude residual/recurrent malignancy. Since pediatric tumors often have overexpression of various molecular pathways, a variety of molecular imaging agents for PET/CT and SPECT/CT can be used (FDG). PET/CT with 18F-FDG usually shows increased tumor uptake in pediatric lymphoma and many other extra-cranial solid tumors. Amino acid based molecular imaging agents can be used in brain tumors and somatostatin receptor (SSTR) peptide molecular imaging agents can be used for tumors of neuroendocrine origin. Ongoing research has developed many novel molecular imaging agents which are in clinical trials. - Role of Physiotherapy in Covid- 19 Pandemic

Learning from the Covid 19 Pandemic Implications for Science Health and Healthcare, 2023
COVID-19 is a serious burden on healthcare workers, administration, and government on critical care resources due to the large numberof patientsrequiring critical care. The symptomsof disease range from influenza-like illness to fever, cough, fatigue, sputum production, and shortness of breath. Early intervention with chest physiotherapy can prevent the need for intubation in COVID-19 patients with respiratory distress. Chest physiotherapy focuses on airway clearance techniques, re-expansion collapsed segments of the lungs, and maintaining adequate levels of oxygenation. These may delay or prevent the need forintubation and may facilitate early weaning and reduce the chances of re-intubation. This chapter focuses on various physiotherapy techniques used in rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients. - COMPARISON OF PSYCHOLOGICAL DIMENSIONS IN RURAL POPULATION WITH VARIOUS JOINT DEGENERATIVE ARTHRITIS

Background and Purpose:Osteoarthritis patients often suffer from anxiety which can affect the disease prognosis. This study is aimed at assessing the various psychological dimensions in different joint arthritic subjects of the rural population and finding the most common joint arthritis that can lead to anxiety in the rural population. Materials & methods: A total of 252 subjects satisfied the inclusion criteria and were recruited for the study after written informed consent and were asked to fill in the GPS online through Google forms. The “feelings” subscale assesses the patient’s psychological stress due to pain and disease. The psychological dimensions of sub-section feelings of GPS were analyzed by one-way ANOVA to assess whether there is a difference on average in the scores among the three groups at a [Formula: see text] significant level. Tukey HSD was used for post hoc pairwise comparisons. Results: One-way ANOVA results showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the groups for fear, level of anxiety, depression, stress, and fatigue. Tukey HSD post hoc comparison revealed that the results were statistically significant for fear ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text]) and fatigue levels ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text]). The Tukey HSD post hoc comparison for levels of anxiety, depression, and stress was not statistically significant. Conclusion: From this study, we conclude that anxiety, fatigue, and fear are highly prevalent in hip osteoarthritis. Anxiety is associated with all joint osteoarthritis and can result in poor quality of living. We recommend physicians to emphasize psychological dimensions and address them at an early stage in order to achieve a better prognosis in degenerative joint diseases. - Effectiveness of endonasal cranial balloon release technique in relieving symptoms of migraine and improving the quality of work in a sedentary worker - A single case study

Journal of Medical Pharmaceutical and Allied Sciences, 2022
Migraine is a neurological condition affecting women more than man is often a cause to decrease the quality of work and productivity in workers. This study introduces a novel technique Endonasal Cranial balloon release, which has potential benefits in the treatment of migraine and its symptoms. This is a single case report of 37-year-old female who presented with a 2-year history of migraine with no other comorbidities and having difficulty in participating actively in the work-place. After explaining the entire procedure and written consent, the patient was treated with Endonasal Cranial balloon release for four sessions, each session a day continuously. The pain was assessed by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). The impact of migraine was assessed by Headache Impact Test (HIT). The impact of migraine on work productivity was assessed by the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) questionnaire. All the outcome measures were measured pre-treatment, Post-treatment after completion of all four sessions, and after one-month follow-up. The patient pain has reduced tremendously, with improved work productivity and participation. This study concludes that the Endonasal Cranial Balloon Release technique would reduce the pain and discomfort due to migraines without remissions. It rehabilitates the worker with improved productivity. We also suggest several randomized clinical trials should be conducted to identify the potential benefits of this therapy. Postpartum depression is a mental disorder which affects most of the adult women with major depressive symptoms. Increased thyroid profile levels and postpartum depression symptoms can effect on mother’s and child’s health. The aim of this study is to test whether there is arelationship between thyroid profile levels and postpartum depression. The design of this study is Correlational observational.A total of 200 patients having either one or two children with previous normal vaginal deliveries, attending the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBG) outpatient department between 30 to36 weeks were screened and 28 subjects selected for the study after satisfying inclusion criteria from the University Hospital. A written consent was taken from all the subjects before recruitment. The demographic data of all subjects such as age, period of gestation (POG), hemoglobin, thyroid profile and vitals were recorded at the time of recruitment. The Thyroid profile was checked at the time of recruitment byRadio Immuno Assay (RIA) kit and postpartum depression assessed by Edinburg postnatal depression scales (EPDS).T4 levels and EPDS scores are weak positively correlated and is statistically significant at p<0.05. The correlation btween T3 stimulating Hormone (TSH) with EPDS scores was weak negatively correlated and are not statistically significant at p<0.05.From the results we conclude that this study found that Thyroid dysfunction has a positive correlation with postpartum depression. Thus, thyroid screening during pregnancy may be useful to find out the association between thyroid levels and Postpartum depression.
