Biography
Dr. Shailesh Kumar Jain (born 7 August 1976, Jaipur, Rajasthan) is a distinguished Plant Breeder and currently Professor & Head, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding at Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute under Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University. He obtained his B.Sc. (Ag.) and M.Sc. (Ag.) from Rajasthan Agriculture University and earned his Ph.D. from Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology. An accomplished crop breeder, he has developed several high-yielding varieties, including the world’s first three-way pearl millet hybrid RHB 273, along with notable varieties in chickpea, cluster bean, sorghum, cowpea, isabgol, and field pea. He has guided 5 Ph.D. and 5 M.Sc. students, published over 80 research papers in NAAS-rated journals, and authored more than 10 books and book chapters. Dr. Jain is a recipient of prestigious honors including the ICAR–ISPRD Fellowship (2026), Vice-Chancellor’s Appreciation Award (2026), STAR Excellence Award (2025)
