Biography
My research focuses on the use of physical and chemical mutagens in the development of high yielding mutant varieties in food legumes and medicinally important plants. In response to the FAO challenge: food productivity must be increased by 70% to support the growing population that is expected to reach to 9.6 billion by 2050. We undertook several research projects aimed at increasing the productivity of cool and warm-season food legumes that are ideal crops to achieve local and global food security. We were successful in developing high yielding mutant lines of cowpea, chickpea, and lentil that are promising in increasing the yielding potential of existing cultivars. I have published more than 40 scientific papers in reputed journals. I have expertise in many areas of Botany including Plant Breeding and Crop Genetics, Molecular Genetics, MAS, and QTL mapping. I am also an editorial board member of several reputed journals.
